I just cant wait to see the reaction on this board when we lose a game to some team we "have no business losing to" like last year.
Already starting to save up some of those losses from yesterday into my memory bank. Like Miami losing to Rhode Island.

We already have people claiming we could win the Minor League championship

I agree. And I remember fans discussing that same thing back in those days, too. Not really sure what you have until you get into SEC play.
Not saying the results will be the same, but this start is like nothing I've seen since those days.

Through 8 games this year's team has 17 homeruns. The '97 team had 23. Damn!

I'm pretty sure it'll be the same reaction as it was back then when we would lose a few midweek games. Of course this site will probably meltdown, but that's the way it is here.
You think LSU fans enjoyed losing to UNO or Tulane during the week back then? It's no different.

IMO we go undefeated no questions asked!

People need to calm down IMO. I love how everyone's getting excited about the team, but it's WAY to early for this. We've played horrible teams so far.
If you cannot see it, you're blind. This team is the real deal.

are you serious?
I might be exaggerating a little, but there was a thread yesterday about LSU playing minor league teams, go look at some of the responses

I bet the '97 team had, in all, 5 SB's through 7-8 games and maybe 1-2 triples. The sb's and extra basehits > hitting a bunch of homeruns with no one on base.

Not saying they did, I more or less talking about some of the irrational things that will be posted here

I agree. I'm just saying that it's unbelievable how many homeruns that team hit.

Have we ever had a better SS than DJ LeMahieu?
Aaron Hill was pretty good. Russ Johnson? Brandon Larson?

I didn't read through the entire post but here's a consideration I doubt's been mentioned. The 97 team and previous LSU teams commenced their seasons two weeks earlier than this team. So the previous teams were subjected to two weeks more of cold weather when the balls don't carry as well.
I like the make-up of the 2009 team but its too early to crown them with immortality.

'97
71-99 sb-att
11 trips
188 hrs
'09 currently
29-32 on pace for around 195-260 based on a 3-4 ave. per a game (right now 3.6, 29 in 8 games) and 65 games (I didn't feel like looking up the exact number, it's close to that)
17 hr on pace for 138ish (based on 2.1something a game right now, still 65 games)
7 triples on pace for about 56 (.875 a game 65 games)
we are on pace for the best team ever, it can happen and may happen, I'm going to wait till at least half way thru sec play to say if they are better than '97 team
I will say that right now they are insane and no doubt in my mind top 3 in nation, probably best
ETA: I may wait till I see the NC trophy in their hands to say if they were better than '97, and as someone who was there for the '97 season too, it's a matter of opinion, Eddy Furniss to this day remains my favorite player and I will always see him as the best LSU Baseball player though many may be inclined to disagree

everyone can hit, some for power, with back-ups with not much drop off. The differnce is the speed of this team. That creates a lot of pressure on the defense.

summer grove tiger. Man i like your excitement but they haven't played any good teams with good deep pitching yet. They are great though.
Are you saying that DJ Le Mahieu is better than jason williams. Jason made less eras a year so for, that is for sure and if i remember right he batted over 350. Le Mahieu is right there with him so far.

Yea they are a special team, but wait until we see a better than average pitching staff before you start calling this the all time best team in LSU history. SEC ball is a lot different than Villanova, and this weekend's opponent Illinois, who were picked to finish in the middle to bottom of their conference and have hardly been outside this year. I'd hold off on these proclamations until we see a Friday starter from Tennessee (Morgado) or Georgia (McRee) and put up double digits.
