Game 3: Cowan for 5 innings
I would like to hear your guess on how many times Cowan has pitched 5 innings in a single game so far this year

Dream scenario for game 2 is Eyanson CG with <110 pitches and 0 runs.

Not sure how relevant that is. 2023 had guys get extended several times that hadn’t even previously. As well as Cowan has thrown 5 innings more than a few times in his career.

Cowan
Isn’t hitting his spots.
He is a pitcher that thrives on control, and he hasn’t had it lately. Idk if this is a mental thing, or an injury, but he isn’t locating pitches like he did early in the year.

This is my speculation on our pitching strategy going forward based on Game 1.
Shores and Evans are obviously our two most trusted guys out of the pen, and they both only pitched one inning. With a day in between games, I think the plan is to keep their pitch counts low and use them both to close each game with the expectation that we have a lead late.
Game 2: Eyanson until the 7th inning, Shores 8th and Evans to close in the 9th.
Game 3: Cowan for 5 innings (with the option of Cooper/Noot to pitch an inning or two to get us to the 8th), Shores 8th, Evans to close in the 9th.
Game 4 (if necessary): Anderson again and perhaps Eyanson to close the 9th (if desperate)
For the final series: Friday (Bullpen), Saturday Eyanson, Sunday Kade
No where in this equation do you have Williams pitching

I never said it was impossible for Cowan to throw 5 innings. The OP said that he thinks Jay Johnson is planning on him doing that in game 3. I would bet a fair amount of money that that is not currently the plan for LSU.

Teams figured him ourlt or something
He didn’t get suddenly figured out at A&M. Ever sense he got squeezed and that inning fell apart he had had command issues. That change up isn’t effective when he cant throw strikes.

Shores/Evans are not going to Start game 3. It is clear they are going to be used out of the pen to finish games. The hope is that we don't have to use them game 2 but if it's close, that is how it will go.
Williams/Noot/or Cowan will have to start Game 3.

Jay is more likely to rely on a veteran in that situation to go deep than a freshman. Which our our young guys have proven they can get 4 or 5 innings other than Evans? Evans is clearly being used to close games at this point. At least Cowan has proven effective in the past and has experience under his belt.
In our most recent high pressure scenario, he went with Cowan and then Evans and I suspect he will do it again

My guess is he wants Shores and Evans available for every game if necessary.
Staying in the winners bracket would allow this.

Exactly. That is what I proposed in the original post. Keep their appearances in short relief so that that can be used every game.

Pitching strategy is this:
Do whatever it takes to beat UCLA even figure it out.
If you had to plan it out best case scenario it would be Eyason complete game shut out
Then Shores, Evans and Cowan win you game 3 and Kade starts the championship series
But the only goal and only plan is - Beat UCLA. Then you can figure it out with game 3 and you're playing someone else's midweek guy.

The idea is that Arkansas is scraping the bottom of their pen and we are raking.
They won’t be scraping. They will throw the same guy they started last night.
Their pen is much deeper and more reliable in my opinion.

Give Schmidt the start in the 3rd game on a short leash. The kid can be electric if he can throw strikes. Especially if the wind is blowing in again.
