Some coaches aren't made for this era of college sports. Bennett recognized such and got out. Go look at his last 4 years after he won the championship. Bennett was trending downward. His style was developing guys for multiple years to be experienced vets within the style of play. That's not going to happen now and he knows it.

It is,actually WW that got LSU the equivalent of the death penalty. Woodward and Kelly completely misread the transfer portal. Kelly saying he is not bidding on players. Woodward was probably behind the Budget for basketball Anyway. There are a bunch of people responsible for where basketball is. mCMahon is just the most visible If he has thomas at full speed he is at worst 3 and 3 in Sec. maybe 4 and 2. I am perfectly ok with making a change. McMahon is not a bd guy or bad coach

I think I got it - Kiffin was not hired by the other guy?

How people still say Matt McMahon is not a bad coach is hilarious. He has lost 75% of his conference games. And the crazy thing is our talent this year is pretty solid, but still three of the conference losses are by double digits. I saw enough after year 1 to know McMahon was probably not going to last long here. Really don’t think anything less than a run to the sweet sixteen will keep him here past this year.

Friday March 12th is the first day of the SEC tournament. It will probably also be McMahon's last day

I just don't know how this guy got a major Division 1 college coaching job,and when he did of course it's LSU and he has ruined the program,it just sucks that LSU got the worse mid major coach out there!

Has not been able to replicate Ja Morant / generational talent type recruit. I think he struck lightning in a bottle there

Wednesday, March 11 is the 1st round for non-bye seeds. LSU will likely be playing then.

It's hard to defend McMahon much, but the narrative that he only had success at Murray St because of Morant is simply not true. The year after Morant left MSU went 23-9 and tied for first in the OVC. They lost by 1 to Belmont in the OVC Tournament finals.

The year he got the LSU job Murray St was 31-3 and a 7th seed in the NCAAT. They beat San Francisco (coached by current Florida HC, Todd Golden) in the 1st round of the tournament. That was McMahon's best season at Murray St. Again, without Morant.

ON PAPER he had a good resume. In fact, his resume (as a HC) was better than Golden's...who now has a National Championship at Florida. To argue otherwise is revisionist history to fit an agenda. Very few argued it was a "bad" hire at the time of the hire. Much like Brian Kelly in football.

Unfortunately, it became clear pretty quickly he wasn't cut out for the level of competition in the SEC in this era of college sports. Much like Kelly, he may have been successful in the pre-NIL/freedom of movement era. But that is not the era we live in anymore.

This will be the day that pride in this program will be restored and hopefully we can end this charade.

Will “The Pear” Wade was the guy. Fired him for no reasons. Bc ppl hated how good LSU was getting so they bring up fake news. Go get him back

Absolutely, I was happy with the hire at the time. But there were red flags the first year that IMHO proved to be legit unfortunately. I really wish it had worked out better, he really is a good dude.

McMahon buyout now is about 7 million. Thanks Scott.!. For reference only, Will Wades salary this year at NC State is 2.65 million. Tennessee, Bama Texas, Vandy are all good in the 3 major sports. No reason we can’t be. I trust that Verge will do the right thing for the program immediately after the season.

+1. The SEC coaches know playing LSU is a win and no threat to the top of the SEC.

For a loser that gets a silver medal in 75% of his conference games. That contract is criminal. I’m so glad Woodward is gone. He was a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
