Yea, either Lyn or Ronnie said that Cooper came out of the dugout and crossed the first base line but was looking to the dugout to see if he should be going out there. Dathe was coming in from the bull pen. I guess since he crossed the baseline, the umpire made him stay in the game, but I think the plan was for Dathe to start that inning.

Apparently, Williams didn’t know he wasn’t going back in and took the mound before the new pitcher made his way to the mound from the bullpen so the umpire ruled that Cooper had to pitch.

how is that even a rule? Guys get pulled in the middle of an at bat but can't be pulled before one starts if he runs out of the dugout?
