The Kirby that can never get over the hump that is Alabama? That got beat by back up QBs 2 times in championship games? That constantly gets out coached when facing teams with similar talent levels?
He’s at least shown some propensity to be able to change their offense, which means he may get it fixed. However, the QB mismanagement over there is next level. Our staff used to recruit guys who weren’t up to the task, but they never drove off a Heisman candidate and a couple of NFL Daft picks.

Can you name those two scrubs for us?
Regardless, doesn't change they fact that he was in fact right on the edge of winning a championship.
It's very easy to say "no one is beating Saban" and likely be right. Not exactly a hot take there. But to act like some teams and coaches are completely incapable, thereby putting O and this dumpster fire somehow in a tier beyond them, is a little ridiculous.

at some point Kirby will break through, he's young enough to wait out saban and he's building classes upon classes of talent there.
jimbo, is in the same realm, he's building the trenches on both sides which is dictating how well they play physically. LSU game aside, they really attack the LOS really well.

We all know O got over that hump because of the combo of Brady and Burrow. Without both, it doesn’t happen. Unless those two coaches similarly modernize their offenses and pick up a top flight QB (and Kirby may have one now), they won’t get there.
That’s not “putting O in a tier beyond them” unless you have an ax to grind, which we ALL know you do.

I think Jimbo is going to surprise you. He's changing the soft culture at A&M and is a proven QB developer. I think when Mond is gone he's gonna make some noise.
ERTA: And I have no ax to grind with O. He's shown to be exactly what I thought he was. The success from last year has nothing to do with his coaching ability, it all comes down to being surrounded by elite coaches and talent. He better get better people in this program stat.

I’m not knocking Jimbo’s QB development. I think Mond is shite and don’t fault him for how terribly average he is. Jimbo couldn’t get much out of Marcus Randal, either. There’s only so far coaching can go.
However, he’s not signing a top QB away from Bama, Clemson, Oklahoma or OSU with his current offense. Systems like that don’t attract the best talent. Our offense last year was my conversion. There is no winning a championship right now without a modern offense. I wanted Jimbo in 2015 and 16, but we don’t win a title last year with him. We’re better than we are this year. I’ll give you that, but given the choice, I’ll take the ring and move on from O later if necessary.
We were able to sign Nussmeier on the heels of last year and thankfully Howard is a legacy and wants to be here. We are set up very well if they bring in the right OC. But that’s what it takes. You can have all the rest, but you aren’t getting the badass QB with Notre Dame’s or A&M’s schemes. You get Mond and Book (maybe a bit better than them) and max out at getting bounced in the semis and more likely just going to NY6 Bowl. That’s not bad, but it’s not winning titles.

This sounds like a fricking dumpster fire. Program might collapse...

Kirby has managed to out recruit everyone and he may eventually break through, but considering his level of talent he should be doing better.
The last 4 years his class ranking is:
2020 - 1
2019 - 2
2018 - 1
2017 - 3

Remind me Kirby's record against us. I'll wait.
The East sucks and the only team he has to worry about is Florida and now that they actually have a pulse he loses. He took too long to realize his walk on level QB couldn't win him a championship when everyone else saw it before the Bama game. He is mark richt/les miles 2.0.

The year after Gene Chizik went 14-0 and won a national title with Cam Newton, Auburn went from 14-0 to 8-5, 4-4 in the SEC. The next season, year two after the national title, Chizik went 3-9, 0-8 in the SEC and was fired.
Looks to me like O skipped over Chizik's second post championship year and went straight to year 3

Jimbo hasn't signed an elite QB

That’s what happens when you miss on guys like Seddrick Van Pran who was the #1 Center in the country and in your own state...

Technically, you have to go back to 2003 which is 17 years for LSU data to be correct and when you do, USC and UT won natties in that timeframe.
