yep. mid range shooting, scoring in the post, offensive rebounds, & free throw shooting are what we're good at. Good on fast breaks as well.
I think it was Steve Spurrier that said this but I am not 100% sure. Anyway, he told his assitant coach one day at practice to stop telling him what the kid can't do and figure out what he CAN do and have him do that.
Thats a recipe for success.

Vandy executed off the ball screen very well to get open shots on the perimeter and they hit open shots. When we rotated effectively they countered with penetrating effectively because the were well spaced and we had no help in the lane.
Their game works when they are hitting the open shot. They were hitting it last night.
I'm surprised it took them this long to get a win. They are a lot better team than their record indicates but I guess that's what happens when you have to rely on making a high percentage of long outside shots.

f you watched the whole game... which I did.. then you would understand that we are just fine. Vandy was having one of those magical games. There PG had close to 30 points in the first half. They were just making every shot. This game is good for us. Losing should make you want it more
Have you watched the entire season? Because if you have then surely you realize that while last night was the worst performance of the year on defense, it was FAR from the only bad performance defensive. Particularly in defending the 3. LSU is currently ranked 327 in % of opponents points allowed from 3 pointers. They were 309 going into the game. For reference, there are only 353 D-1 teams. So CLEARLY there have been defensive problems ALL SEASON LONG, not just last night.
LSU can "want it more" all they want. But if Wade and Co. don't change their approach defensively, they are going to be in a lot of high scoring shootouts, regardless of quality of opponent. Have you not wondered why a team that is in the top 10 nationally in BOTH offensive efficiency AND points per game seems to find themselves playing in an abnormal amount of close games regardless of the quality of opponent? And regardless of the amount of points scored? (LSU scored 90...in conf play...on the ROAD...and still lost by 9!)
It's because they don't defend worth a shite. And it seems a bit unbelievable to think that their versatility and athleticism can ONLY reap benefits on one side of the ball. LSU has been an average to below average defensive team all three years of the Wade era. That's not a subjective opinion. The stats bear that out. Perhaps instead of simply just "wanting it more", maybe, just maybe, a change in the defensive philosophy/approach is more in order.

At some point, guarding this guy might have been a good option...

We were 1-9 from 3 pt. range at half, and their guard Evans #3 was 7-9. Evans scored 18 more pts. from the 3 pt. line than our entire team and Jaylen Hurts looked off last night. His 1st half was terrible and the Vandy guards were on fire all game.

I’d counter with the fact the we’ve won all our games by our hustling the other team for rebounds on both ends. So this game seems to be the exception, not the rule.
This. Our defensive effort and attitude was just not there. Seemed like our swagger was lacking. I am confident that Gen Wade will have them playing at a high energy level Saturday. Sometimes it's just not there. Blame the coaches and the players.

Well said. And spot on imo.
As you stated previously and from Will wade’s own admission to a post game interview question earlier this year, he’d rather score 90 than hold a team to under 60 points. In other words, he puts way more emphasis on scoring than defense. Never was that more evident than last night. I know that doesn’t mean he doesn’t care about defense at all, but there has to be more of a priority going forward in three point defense and help defense on dribble penetration. Vandy had their way ALL NIGHT LONG and we couldn’t stop them. And they’re not nearly as talented as Auburn and Kentucky.
The help defense was nonexistent last night and the adjustments to guard evans and the 3 came way too late. Makes me think the game plan coming in was to let them shoot from 3. That’s fine. But once he makes his 3rd three you have to adjust and get out on him. We finally did about 5 minutes into the second half but by then Vandy found a way to exploit the dribble drive and we couldn’t stop anyone.
I thought we had been better defensively as of late but the numbers you posted don’t lie. Defense is an issue. As you said, it’s what has been keeping games close. The good news is we can play with anyone. The bad news is, everyone seems to be able to play with us.

disagree. I think the 10 game win streak was a product of them accepting who they are. I think last night they found themselves chasing a team that couldn't miss from 3 and it rattled them a bit and made them play out of character
How many 3's did we jack up in the 1st half?

It's hard to play at that pace when you are only playing 6 players.
Since Manning has been out
Emmitt's MPG have gone from 27----> 32
Watford 29----> 34
Smart 31----> 37
These dudes are getting ran into the ground and the issue will only compound itself the further they get into the schedule. Keep in mind they are playing close games, so these are hard, rigorous minutes.
Having 4 guys on scholarship that you are basically afraid to play doesn't exactly help.

We have some games that were won thru hard play at the end AND WITH A LOT OF LUCK. In many of those games we had blown a nice lead so yes....one point or another.
Poor Defense is an issue.
