Laman1978, hope you see this.

I've been futzing around trying to make a workable schedule with the 3-4-1-1 and I haven't been able to make what I would consider a satisfying schedule. Still working on it periodically, and hope to come up with what I consider a good schedule.

So my question is do you know if they played with the format and they know it works best? If so, how? Or is this just a proposed format, but they haven't looked at it closely yet.

I do not like the idea and think you run the risk of 3 teams eligible for the sec title game. 3 go undefeated, no one played each other, who gets left out?

It’s not possible to have 3 undefeated teams because you play everyone in your pod plus one other pod each year. That means you have two groups of 8 teams that each play a round robin, so you can have at most two undefeated teams.

It’s a decent compromise that gives you objective seeding for the SECCG, but the mechanics are a little clunky with the two “divisions” changing each year.

That said, it would add another layer of excitement to the regular season - not only would we play the current SECe teams more, we would be effectively be competing in a division with each of them once every 3 years. So it really raises the stakes of those UF/UGA games when you do play them.

Division Names just sound better than (Pods)

Mid South Division
Tennessee
Vanderbilt
Auburn
Alabama

Southern Prairie Division
Arkansas
Missouri
Texas
Oklahoma

South East Division
Florida
Georgia
South Carolina
Kentucky

Delta Division
Texas A&M
LSU
Ole Miss
Mississippi State

Rivalries
1.Ala-Tenn
2.UGA-Fla (Cocktail Party)
3.LSU-Ole Miss (Magnolia Bowl)
4.Auburn-Ala (Iron Bowl)
5.Tex-OU (Red River)
6.A&M-LSU or Texes-A&M (A&M Placement)
7.Ole Miss-Miss St. (Egg Bowl)
8.Arkansas-Missouri
9.South Carolina-UGA

*The only 3 Games lost:

LSU-Bama
Auburn-UGA

1 Game below will be a Losted, depending which Division A&M is in.

LSU-A&M (Casualty to the Game Below)
Texas-A&M (Not Sure A&M Wants it anyway)

Only 2 School really don't have a Rival Game.
UK (Basketball School)
Vandy (Baseball School)
Both really should be glad just to be in the SEC.

SEC is not going to put alabama, auburn, tennessee, and UGA in the same division no matter what "geogrpahy" looks like.

Looks good but switch Arkansas with Texas A&M.

Makes zero sense to put two rival schools that are 90 miles apart in separate divisions.

I love this setup and been hoping for this from the beginning.

The only thing I hope for now is that the +1+1 component is based on where you placed within your pod the prior year (NFL style). That would add a bit more parity than just a rotation. The 4 pod winners all have the play each other the next season. We would always have an SECCG rematch the following regular season.

I have higher longer term expectations for TX than you.

I believe it's better for conference competitiveness if MO and AR have as much exposure in TX as possible for recruiting purposes. Not that I expect them to start taking high 4 and 5 stars right away, but there is plenty of talent going to remaining big 12 schools that they should be able to attract.

I like having having a permanent TX opponent in order to have access more access to TX than the rest of the power teams in the conference.

Really up to Aggie. We should give them the choice, given the impact of expansion on them.

That way say LSU is in a pod with Arky, Ole Miss, and MSU, they can still play Aggy every year?

I just don't get it. What is this obsession of some with playing aTm? Please explain it to me because I really don't get it.

Preserve all in-state and most meaningful rivalries, group in a way that makes sense geographically, call them whatever you want.

Splitting up Texas and Texas A&M makes as much sense as splitting up Ole Miss and MSU, or Bama and Auburn.

This is how this pod will be:

Texas A&M
Texas
Oklahoma
Missouri

One good team, OU, and three mid tier teams.

That's exactly how I had it. Is that your way of agreeing with me?

To not put Texas and Texas A&M in the same pod is ridiculous

To not put Bama-Auburn-Georgia in the same pod also

I think you need to leave out North, South for obvious reasons whether you like it or not and group by distance, never perfect but someone has to play the teams closest to them every year

Label the Northwest, Southwest, Northeast, Southeast

This makes sense to me

OU, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Missouri - Northwest
Vandy, Tennesse, Kentucky, SC - Northeast
Texas, Texas A&M, LSU, Miss St - Southwest
Bama, Auburn, Georgia, Florida - Southeast

Sankey has already said several times that the prime imperative is to move all schools through all other schools’ schedules in as short a time frame as possible. He couldn’t be any clearer.

Bookmark this: there will be NO EAST AND WEST DIVISIONS.

Best is no pods, no divisions thus no permanent foes. Just one league. This way you can rotate teams and play everyone in conference every 2 years. New era, time to get rid of the unfair permanent foes.

Correct. The old B12 teams should be in a pod.
