Definitely improved as the season progressed, and better than last year, for sure
Blake Baker was quite an upgrade after years marred by the skidmarks left behind by Bo Pelini and later, House. Don't have any idea who will replace Baker, or even if he can be replaced

Depends. Chip left ucla to be a coordinator and Gus left ucf to be coordinator
Kane Wommack left a head coaching position at South Alabama for the DC spot at Alabama. Course, He got a pretty big salary boost too.

RE tulane's HC leaving this year, one of the talking heads on SEC NOW commented that he'd be smart to wait till next year, as there are several SEC HC positions potentially opening up, giving him more options. Better options.

I agree for sure about Ryan and Burns. Burns of course will not be starting because he ran out of eligibility. I was hoping Ryan would have stayed in the portal last year but withdrew. But yeah, if Burns and Ryan were the best players they had at those secondary positions, that tells you right there how weak those positions were. I wasn't as down on Greg Penn as some were but of course he ran out of eligibility also.

I have a sauce that seems to think this is basically a done deal. I hope he’s wrong because I like what Baker has done here

Those are both guys with plenty of money that just want a chance to win a championship from behind the scenes or without the pressure of being the head honcho.
I don’t think Baker leaves LSU for Tulane HC after 1 year.

This would be a no brainer for Blake IMO. His Alma mater and the previous coach is leaving him with a great situation. Who knows. Maybe we can get him in the future if things go well.

Ain't going to happen....quit spreading this F..king rumor !!!

Talent level on defense is not up to par, you will never see a dominant defense if Major Burns, Sage Ryan, Greg Penn, are starting.
Isn’t that why we hired Baker? To maximize these kids? He had a dominate defense at Mizzou.
He did good this season in some games, but couldn’t quite get this LSU defense to compete in all phases.

I couldn't find what Sumrall is making at Tulane but Fritz was reportedly making $2.7m and they offered him $4.5m to stay so I'm guessing an offer to Baker would be somewhere between those two numbers. High 3s maybe? So LSU would have to offer in that range to keep him from his alma mater. Is he worth that as DC?

I agree in the NIL world Tulane is a no brainer. If I was baker I’d take it for sure. LSU is slipping in the NIL era. But the SMU’s and Tulane’s are raising.

Most recent recruiting rankings disagree

Things could change obviously but I don’t think that
A). Tulane’s prepared to pay their HC enough (not sure what Tulane HC makes though, and
B) He’s got it going in BR with his pieces coming in. He earned his $ this year, and
C). Matt Moscona said he talked to someone in Coach Bakers circle who said no contact has even been made, so I believe this is smoke and mirrors.

The HS ranking is what it is, but in the future that’s going to change. NIL will definitely resurrect Tulane. And if you can’t see the rise of Tulane you must have your eyes wide shut.

Yeah they are rising so much that their head coaches are being plucked from them every year. This board is hilarious.

I missed the part where TU coach is leaving? I don’t see it on Coaching changes board. Where is he rumored to be going?
ETA - After a Google search, I see he is rumored for either UNC, Purdue, or UCF.
I don’t see him leaving after 1 year unless he just hates it that much or the money is too good to pass up.

Why are they being plucked? Maybe success maybe and if your baker you could go there 1 year and have a major coaching job like the others
