That has nothing to do with their bowl record last year

Also they dropped after they “beat” UNC after UNC failed to convert a 2 point conversion while Alabama was crushing everyone. We will never know but most people thought a 1 loss Bama would not have made the playoff over a 1 loss conference champ because Bama’s SOS was bad. The argument for Bama was the eye test and they lost to the #1 team, quality of loss, NOT ONCE was the the SECs 2018-19 Bowl record mentioned. No one will care about that in 2 weeks. I bet none of you know what it was last year without looking it up

Eff the SEC.

Dummies.

We can’t have it both ways. If we want to claim the SEC is the toughest conference, and we want committees to rank us based on that, then we certainly need the SEC to take care of business outside of conference. Then there’s the financial component.

UT was one of the better games I’ve seen this year.

Bowls are the last games played of the season, meaning they are the last impression of that team. They matter for recruiting, preseason rankings, and conference perceptions. Bowl wins may not matter in November, but they matter in August.

How often was Texas' win over Georgia been mentioned for why Texas was "back"? How happy was all of college football when we took down "National Champions" UCF?

I may not remember every bowl game from last year, but I remember the ones that impacted college football as a whole.

It's a "down year" for the SEC because is that the SEC only had 9 bowl eligible teams this year versus the record 11 bowl teams last year.

And LSU was way better than any other SEC team. Clemson is about to get destroyed.

It's good the SEC is beating up on the rest of the nation yet again this year. I want to burn into the mind of every human on the planet the idea that the SEC, especially the SEC west is so much better than they are, that they should just give up and stop playing football.

We have almost done that to Oklahoma already. Go check dirtburglers if you dont believe me.

If the cracks the tOSU exposed in Clemson are real, we may give them the same sort of beatdown, make them rethink their whole football program.

I 100% agree about the preseason rankings, it definitely helps individual teams, Texas this year is a great example. But that makes it all the more baffling that people argue we should root for other SEC teams, especially if you think it helps in recruiting. Why would we want teams we are competing against to recruit better? The preseason rankings don;t matter for the teams we play later in the year, so it also makes no sense to say we our opponents to be ranked high in the preseason.

As for the conference perception, i 100% disagree. At least 1 SEC team has been in the National Title game every year since 2006 expect 1. Teams in the SEC have more players drafted, more first rounders, a couple years ago the ACC went 9-3 in bowls and Clemson won the NC, while im sure some said the ACC had a better year than the SEC (which is true) the next year Bama and UGA made the playoff. The SEC is overall the best conference because there are more schools that care about football and at least 7 that can legitimately contend for the NT, that won;t change with a bad bowl season.

I don't think competitive players want to go to a school that plays cupcakes. I could be wrong. I did not play college football.

The SEC has clout, that helps in recruiting - for all SEC schools. There is this concept that "To be the best, you have to beat the best". Talented students are fleeing the PAC 12 for the SEC. Because the SEC is the best. SEC games get the best/most coverage.

We can agree to disagree. There are plenty of people on both sides of the strong/weak conference argument. And there is certainly an argument to be made on both sides. I think the weak ACC helps Clemson, but the weak PAC 12 hurts Oregon. A strong Big 10 helps Penn State.

Impressive, but Iif someone wants to take the time, Id like to see the numbers for inter-conference play during the season.

Not to mention, SEC teams almost always get matched up against teams with a better record than tehmselves, which even more so demonstrates the dominance

No, they were superior to Indiana across the board. Indiana got quite a few breaks in the red zone and a pick six. The best team won.

and they never had the schedule to climb back up. No one could look at that schedule and justify doing so.

No other conference is close.

Pretty good year to display the lack of parity.

all against P5 opponents too. Compare that to the ACCs opponents

A more indicative number would be how we do against other P5 conferences during regular season.

Take out the outliers of cupcake scheduled games.
