Different part of the Country. Kids in Louisiana play a whole lot more basketball than Hockey. LSU would have to be a National recruiting spot which is hard to consistently do against long standing programs. Think of it as the reverse in baseball where the South really dominates the sport outside of a few programs. Consistently the North will be better at the sport.

But I would still support LSU adding a Hockey team and expelling their mens basketball team.

Let’s try men’s soccer first

It’s a lot cheaper and a lot more kids play soccer than hockey

You want to lose millions in revenue through TV, NCAA and SEC revenue sharing, only to get kicked out of the SEC to disband basketball and start a hockey team.

People repeat some of the most asinine takes on here.

Sure with the new financial pressure of revenue sharing, essentially decimating net income, let's add a new sport to fund.

We don't need hockey in the SEC! Leave that sport to the yankees. History has proven that many things coming from the north is not so good.

My take about not disbanding a yearly million+ in profit sport (the only other consistently profitable sport on campus outside of football) isn’t nearly as asasine as your take to do exactly that and get kicked out of the SEC so LSU can have a hockey program.

Bag of rocks stupid.

Frick no. Then they would have to get a piece of the profit share. Need every penny for football and baseball. And basketball if they could get that dumpster fire turned around

You wouldn’t get kicked out of SEC. Also you’re taking 1 line out of context over the course of several posts. But keep coming unhinged lmfao it’s hilarious to watch.

I’m not unhinged you numbnut.

LSU absolutely has a contract with the SEC and idiotically dropping MBB program would certainly put the contract in serious jeopardy.

Lose millions a year in revenue and over a million a year is profit, that is spread across to fund other sports, so you can have a hockey program. So fricking stupid.

No thanks. You’re just too stupid for me. I assume you’re referring to one word, that you should probably reference a dictionary to comprehend the meaning to educate yourself.

Have you heard of the Dallas Stars? Florida Panthers?

It’s VERY location-based. Those 2, Tampa and Nashville have really embraced NHL Hockey. Meanwhile, Atlanta has lost 3 different teams over 50 years. And minor league teams come and go throughout the South. It’s just how it is.

This doesn’t even touch on the Title 9 issue. Men’s and Women’s sports have to be in balance, so if we started an NCAA Hockey program, another men’s sport like Golf would have to go away, or we would have to add another women’s sport, which is adding 2 money-losing sports. Not the best idea.

All these NHL teams ( Dallas, Florida, Nashville, Charlotte. NC) have players from Canada, Russia, extreme northern US. Your whole team would be from another country.

Some of them are working to change this. My company does a lot of work for the Preds and Bridgestone Arena and has a sponsorship agreement. We also do work in two of their satellite buildings in Antioch and Bellevue. They are putting in multiple municipal rinks to work on growing the game and getting more kids here playing it.

It’s a long-term effort, but if nothing else, it’s solidifying support for Hockey in their metro area. And it may eventually result in some kids starting to make it to college and the pros from
pockets of the South.
