They'll have an idea who Coach Robinson is and the clout he has once they see his signed photos from the entire cast of M.A.S.H. (aside from Harry Morgan).

Is Bud Wilkinson still kickin' around?

Howard Schnellenberger makes more sense for Oklahoma imo.

The difference between Riley and Switzer, is that Switzer won 3 Natty's, and 12 conferences championships.

Riley would have to be brain-dead not to be able to learn something from Switzer.

Coach Robinson a legend bordering on a deity in SoCal. He was Nick Saban before Saban. If CEO has Coach Robinson join him during in home visits in SoCal, that will close the deal for a lot of families.

If LSU wants to recruit a elite QBs, this is where they are grown.

Smart move by CEO

I think that when there are lulls in the games this year then the announcers will need to fill some time. One topic that will be brought up repeatedly (in a good light) is that Robinson is a consultant on O's staff.

Good publicity is good publicity.

I’m just gonna gonna accept the concept that O knows what can benefit the team moreso than a bunch of crybabies on an internet mess board, you should too.

That's fine. Why can't we just leave it at that though?

We have a thread saying that an 83-year-old man was hired for recruiting California. You think someone's going to make that huge of an assumption without being called out on it?

He’s got that killer instinct.

Not according to 75 percent of the African American population. Only 25 percent believes he killed those 2. Conversely 75 percent of the non-African American population believes he is guilty and 25 percent not. Even so, I'd tend to believe 100 percent of both would not let him baby-sit their daughters, or sons. Especially those named Nicole and Ron.

He last coached 20 years ago. These kids coming from HS have no clue who he is. So no, it's not about recruiting southern cal.

Folks who remember Robinson coaching are in their late 60's or older.

You might want to try in their 40s...I'm in my 40s and I remember Robinson coaching USC in the late 70s and early 80s and coaching the Rams as well as his second gig at USC in the 90s...

I am an LSU alum that has lived in LA for over 30 years.

For those that to don't live west and are bashing on the Robinson name, you have no clue. John Robinson hasn't paid for a drink, dinner, car or home in SoCal since he coached at USC. For those that think that every person that has grown up on the myth of USC football doesn't know who Robinson in, you are a fool. Like SEC football, USC is a religion here.

I know that every USC fan wishes CEO was coaching USC instead of Helton. I was at the game when CEO coached USC to a victory over Stanford. It was an epic win that is in the USC lore.

Yeah, I have 11 posts. I want a lot more LSU that I attend in person. Went to the CWS regionals at UCLA and already have tix for basketball when they play at USC this fall.

For those that are in LA, DM me. Happy to go to drinks or recommend places for any Tiger fan.

Exactly. And it doesn't end at the California state line. Robinson is respected in every Pac-12 city.

He can open doors for recruiting throughout the West. And, of course, particularly in California.

Great, now is "experience" will overrule some other young bright staffers innovative suggestion.

A. He is a consultant, can’t have enough of them
B. He will advise Orgeron. Even if he only imparts one nugget of wisdom to help LSU win a game it’s worth it
C. He s still got his championship rings and can talk about his Heisman winners. Impressive
I don’t see a downside

I wouldn't overthink this hire. They're bringing in a guy that knows how to run a program and has a championship pedigree. It is very low risk, since he's really not going to be asked to do any more than consult - anything else he brings with regards to recruiting or game planning, etc is just lagniappe.
