The system of unlimited transfers will hurt more than it helps, like telling kids they can just skip the school lunch line and opt for unlimited soft serve ice cream. There is a better way, and one in the interest of most athletes, but the system is currently stuck on giving them absolute freedom to do anything.
The system of unlimited transfers has done far more good than harm for these kids. Tyler Shough might have gone undrafted without the portal. Jayden Daniels won a Heisman because of the portal. Beck would be benched at UGA, Pavia, Mendoza, all these guys are nothing without the portal and NIL.
Cut the bull. If you're worried about the student athlete's future success, don't put them in pads and have them batter one another until they have brain damage.
The transferring to 6 different schools is a TJ Finley problem. And I feel bad for him. But that's something that he's going to have to learn himself.

Pretty sure he graduated from Auburn a few years ago.

It’s majorly fricked up now. Just wait a couple of years and it’s gonna be even more clownish. This is only the start of the circus.

There is a difference in saying no NIL and no portal vs no unlimited transfers. In addition to college credits, let’s see how many athletes transferring three times or more make the professional ranks. The example here is TJ Finley, not Jayden Daniels. Or Joe Burrow for that matter. It’s not an all or none proposition, with respect to an unlimited portal.

At some point he has to realize he’s the problem, not the team.

All of our former QBs who transfer out seem to stick around forever

Journey student athlete. I hope he gets a degree somewhere

He graduated from Auburn in 2023 and has been hopping around as a graduate transfer.
He even played for W. KY.

Saw that TJ Finley is transferring from Tulane to Georgia Sate, his 6th team that he has played for in his college career. He enrolled at LSU in January of 2020. This is crazy.
He did this in September. This is old news

The reality is the transfer portal and NIL is what has given us Texas Tech and Indiana in the top 4.
These are good things for CFB.
Agree. But you should be out of eligibility 5 years after you graduate from high school (with maybe a one time medical exemption), regardless of whether you attend college. The stuff Pavia is doing and resetting NCAA rules over eligibility in the courts have to go.
I realize that this gets rid of the feel good stories about 45 year-old people making the team, and maybe you could allow that in Division II and III, but there needs to be a cap.

far outweighed his abilities
Cool it now. He looked pretty good out there at times, just need more experience. 80 comp., 140 att., 5 TDS, 5 INTs, 941 yards in 5 starts. He singlehandedly beat South Carolina and Arkansas with his own hands in 2020. Also 34 yards rushing with one TD. And this is just his LSU performance. He's put up more illustrious stats with Auburn, WKU, Texas State, and Georgia State. Is there another team I'm missing?
Who's to say a Cignetti or Clark Lea couldn't develop TJ into a worldbeater?

Maybe he is just responding to offers where he thinks he has a better chance to play. Maybe he is trying to get exposed to more systems so he can be a better coach one day. I don’t think anymore us know so let’s give the kid the benefit of doubt.

This is what i was thinking! The nuss bust is old too
Posted on 12/9/25 at 8:39 am to ReverendJeffro
I know that LSU has benefitted from the transfer portal more than most, but I think we need to put some structure around it. I'd let the kids have one transfer penalty free and make them sit out a year from subsequent transfers.

Fun Fact: Nussmeier is older than TJ Finley
Barely older, and Nuss is not playing another year much less for his 6th team

Dumb MF enrolled at Tulane, then was promptly kicked out of school for driving a stolen car.

It's also given us a National Championship and 2 Heisman Trophy winners. But some people here want to conveniently forget that.

another fun fact....Nuss was at LSU his entire career, not chasing a new school every single time he failed. I remember Finley's mom saying how we were holding her son back, that he was a future Lamar Jackson. That's probably the issue with Finley....his mother wanting that payday.
