But by doing this you just shift a possible catastrophe to the third game with a WORSE arm against BETTER competition. How do you not see that?
Like the other poster said "Losing to Tulane isnt catastrophe. Losing the regional is."

If LSU can't pitch a #3 or even #4 to beat Tulane with 2 of the best players in the country alongside a very good hitting lineup they don't deserve to go anywhere and maybe even start to look at JJ's seat getting hot. Tulane is fricking atrocious and are fortunate to even be in the tournament.
Sam Houston has good bats among the best in the country. We need all the bullpen we can get especially if they slip by Oregon State. There's a very good chance we're playing Sam Houston in the winner's bracket because they honestly on paper are better than Oregon State right now when you consider their injured bullpen.

I do see that. I guess i'm just blindly believing in Hurd and our offense against a team playing in their 4th game even if that is Oregon St or SHS. If Hurd does struggle against one of these superiors offenses, we will cover it by destroying a staff that will be in game 4. I once again just want to get to 2-0 and avoid Hurd blowing up game 1. I know this hasn't happened in years in the 1 vs 4 matchup but it would just be the way I would handle things. Just my opinion which i'm sure you're glad doesn't matter haha.

You are overthinking this.
I think everyone here can agree that Georgia & S Carolina are, both, significantly better teams than Tulane. Hurd pitched masterfully against both. He started, and won, against S Carolina, and went long into the game.
Hurd is the most rested of the 3 starters. He’s proven that he can get it done against SEC competition.
There is literally no legitimate reason why Hurd shouldn’t start against Tulane. Hurd starting Friday gives LSU the best chance to win the regional.
Like others have said, we have to win 3 games. Hurd against Tulane, Skenes against the 3/4 winner, and Floyd on Sunday is LSU’s best path to regional victory.

So if you believe that, what makes you think he cant do it against what is LITERALLY the WORST team in the tournament. Tulane is 19-40
That way you save your best arms for the 2 games against better opponents...
You are out-thinking yourself man

Clearly. I will get back to work and crack a beer later, just anxious and excited for the weekend. Nothing better.

I would absolutely think we would have no issue against a team in their 4th game and would score enough runs to cover Hurd in the event of an off day.
I think the same can be said about LSU playing a 40 loss team with an ace that has a 5.44 era. You should be able to mash your way through this game.
Historically LSU has pitched their number 3 guy or gone Johnny Wholestaff in the first game of a regional.

Damn.
You really doubled down on this terrible take from the other thread.
We have to win 3 games this weekend. Do you want Hurd who has been more inconsistent, or Floyd on the mound against a better team trying to send us to the supers?
Answer me that.
I mean Hurd vs whoever one of these teams put out for their game 4 would not be a bad situation given I think everyone agrees that remaining in the winners bracket is our only real path out of the regional. I think Hurd is more than enough to take down Tulane but if someone doubts that then using Floyd to get to game 2 with Skenes isn't the craziest idea I've seen on here

Everyone is on this money train lately. Jay has already proved he’s not starting the guy.

I dont think its out of the realm of possibility against Tulane. Its a midweek matchup and he's started midweek before. Granted, there is much more on the line. I wouldnt be completely against him and Coleman trying to get 5-6 innings in game one.

That’s what I said earlier. Then after 5 or 6 LSU will hopefully be up big and you can close it out with anyone. Hurd is better saved for a Monday game if necessary or in a big spot out of the pen on Sunday.

But what would it be if he had played in the AAC?
Hurd or Money is starting, mark my words here.

This! TULANE has 40 losses.......we should beat then with any pitcher. Save Ty for Sunday

The reason your logic is faulty is that it doesn’t do you any good to beat Tulane if you are going to lose the regional. Sooner or later Hurd has to win, or someone worse than Hurd has to win. The reason you start Hurd Friday is that is probably the easiest game we will play.
In fact, Game 1 is the easiest, game 2 is the hardest, and game 3 is the second easiest of the first three games. So you put your best pitcher against the hardest team (game 2) your second best in the second hardest game (game 3) and your third best in the easiest game (game 1). Simple, right?
