It’s Walker vs Crews. End of story.
Fontenot, Curiel, Tré Morgan, Mahtook, Bregman are all in that next tier. Talking position players of course.

I’m battling labeling him numero uno. Bregs and Crews are the only ones that compare in my mind. Not just stats, but mindset, how he handles himself, etc.
Guy is wise beyond his years.

Couldn’t agree more. Seems like a great kid.

Crews was a great person too. The fact of the matter is, Crews was the better player as a Freshman.

Curiel had an amazing Freshman year and won the Championship and made the CWS All Tournament team. But I have not seen a better Freshman season than Crews. His power takes him over the top of Curiel.
Crews .362 BA 18HR 162B, 12 stolen bases and 42 RBIs. Dude all but carried us in the Regional against Oregon until Dugas could have that elite game in the game 6 and 7. Still think Crews should have been MVP not Dugas despite Dugas performing well the last two. But he took his game to the next level in the Regional and Super Regional. 5 HRs.

Crews outhit Curiel in the regular season and the post season.
Curiel is great! Huge piece to the 2025 national title. But he had a month long slump that led to him batting 7th in the first game of the Super Regionals. He bounced back and caught fire. But the late season slump cost him SEC Freshman of the Year.

They had a similar batting average. The same amount of hits. Curiel had more RBI, more doubles. They're in this thread.
Crews had a better BA, a much better OPS. He also had more stolen bases. So tell me how Curiel was better offensively, in your opinion? Crews also raked in the postseason that year in both the regionals and supers, so Curiel can’t trump him there either.

For instance, how many chances did each have to drive runs in?
Curiel had Stanfield batting in front of him. Crews had Alex Milazzo

If you don’t have Todd Walker on your short list of 2 or 3 then you’re very young

Crews had a better freshman year.
The fact that it took this many posts to bring up Crews just cost the LSU fanbase some points in the "best baseball fans in the country" race.

I dont want to put down Hilliard, but how far back do you have to go to find a less dominating #1 pitcher in LSU history? 40 years? (Yes, Marceaux was #1 in 2021 but Hilliard was #2 and the. #1 the next year).

Game 1 Paul started some kid from U High at 2B. Stafford, Safford, Sanford. . something.

Did you see me say that Curiel was better offensively? the quoted text in your post is all I said. I was responding to the poster that said Crews had better stats. When looking at the stats side by side, Curiel had the same amount of hits, more RBI, a better OBP, similar batting average, more doubles. He had less HR, less OPS (another power stat). The definitive answer is Dylan Crews had more power than Derek Curiel. Was he better offensively than Curiel? That's hard to tell.
