Why would a high level young QB prospect go to a P4 school to be a backup?

In this new day of CFB, it's been proven that these young prospects are better served going to a school where they can start and get real game experience, then transfer after 1-2 years to be a starter at a bigger school. I like the potential of Landen Clark and appreciate that he's signed, but the only way he'll get true playing time is if Leavitt gets hurt. I guess in there case, if they don't end up playing, they can use their redshirt.

maybe his is betting on himself. Perhaps he thinks he can win the job. Or maybe he is OK with learning and developing. Not every playing is impatient and irrational

One year under Kiffin and Weis as a backup and you are in the mix to start the following year

Because he had about a 50% completion rate at Elon and needs to be coached up by a proven commodity like LK to reach his true potential.

Maybe money, maybe the pull of of a testosterone loaded locker room filled with steam and guys with towels loosely wrapped around themselves.
They guy could have a million reasons.

There are a few athletes that still see the big picture. Take Clark as a prime example. Coming out of high school, a lot of schools viewed him as a DB/ATH. He went to a small school to prove he can be a next level QB.
Now that he checked that box, he chose to learn QB play from one of the best QB coaches in the business. In the long run, holding a clip board, practicing against an SEC defense every day, and being mentored by CLK with a shot to start next season is more valuable than going play at a G5 or DII.

Someone who balls out at a G5 as a true freshman will command much more $ in the transfer portal than a former 5 star that didn't play at all at a big school.
These kids will never do it though, they want the bag without having to earn it.

That’s not the case with Longstreet. Although he is running out of options. He waited too long and should probably just head back to USC

There is an interview of him saying he knew Leavitt was coming and knows there's always multiple QBs on a roster. He's fine sitting.

Leavitt is already hurt.

If he looked at the roster and thought he was good enough to be QB1 or QB2 and will to gamble on himself. Injuries happen and opportunities come every week.

There’s a 2% chance these guys play after college so then it becomes a combination of a couple of factors:
1. Playing time
2. Money
Money is driving most decisions now. Chambliss is a perfect example. He was playing at a D2 school making probably nothing so he gos to OM where he was making maybe $75K. Didn’t really have much of an NFL future but gets an opportunity and look where he is now.

Well, he’ll be QB1 throughout Spring. That’s a ton of experience.

Listen to his interview. Playing long game. Backup qb is huge in SEC.
Something about Leavitt injury makes me nervous although have total confidence that Coach K knows what he doing

Wasn’t Tom Brady only a backup most of his career at Michigan? I thought scouts from the nfl look at every player for potential no matter what

I’d suggest that his goals are probably for 2027. If that doesn’t look promising he loses nothing and can head back to a lesser school for playing time.
And, of course, he probably is making a few bucks.
Makes sense to me.

Like the kid who went to North Texas and now Okie St. That's the way to do it IMO.

Bitch about people leaving saying they can’t handle competition, then we bitch when kids actually come here to compete as well…

Clark gave a interview with regards to that. Coaches didn't bullshite about the starting job. They told him leavitt would be QB 1. And he was fine with it. He stated he planned to be here for three years and next year would help him learn and develop. Plus that kid has a rocket for a arm. Can throw it over seventy yards.
