Baseball is an incredibly variable sport, its not about being the best team the majority of the season, it's about being the best in the postseason ultimately. Even the best team from all season can catch a bad game in the postseason and put them in a spot very difficult to get out of.

2022 Tennessee was one of the best teams in modern college baseball going 53-7 and 29-5 against SEC teams before the tournament. Had like 150 home runs or something nuts before the NCAAT, sub 2.50 team ERA and led the country in WHIP as well. These are obscene numbers before getting to the NCAAT playing in the SEC of all places too.

Then they lost a home super regional to Notre Dame who was a 2 seed sent to Statesboro GA the prior week.

I’m as big an LSU fan as anyone and Jay is a great coach, but as a UCONN grad I have to say that there is no current coach who holds a candle to Geno Aurriema. His stats are ridiculous, and he has been consistently excellent for four decades. His teams on multiple occasion have gone years in a row without losing. It’s unreal.

One thing is certain and that is by SEC tournament time, Jay will have the team playing its best baseball

Geno is the man, but, WBB doesn't have nearly the parity that baseball does, at least not in his 1st 2-3 decades. doesn't diminish what Geno has accomplished, especially those consecutive years without losing, but he had hands down the best 5-7 players on his team each year, for multiple years, with only Summit giving him some challenges until CKM came along.

But he's definitely been slow and steady, and as a husband and father of 2 girls, bless him for being able to be around women that much!

They have proven coaching and they appear to have the talent. A lot of things have to go right and at the right time to win it all, much less repeat.

LSU lost to Little Rock and was down 5-0 in the second inning in an elimination game in the Baton Rouge regional. They then went on to sweep the super and CWS.

Anything can happen, but I think they should be a favorite.

They look very good right now. It’s a very long season though and there are going to be very good teams we are going to play. Lets check back half way through sec play and see how we stack up then. Right now though every thing is pointing up.

Check back with me after say 4 SEC series. I'm not going to say after beating 2 JV teams if they going to win it all this year. I will say if the pitching develops and we have a good year pitching then yea we have a good shot to get to Omaha for sure.

no baseball expert, but Johnson seems to be exceptional at managing a team to do exactly this.

Couldn’t agree more!

That’s why when he makes a move that I don’t necessarily agree with, I shut my damn mouth, and enjoy the ride.
I realize he has forgotten more about baseball than I’ll ever know.

They’ll have a good shot at it this year. As long as Coach J. Johnson is here, we should always put a quality team on the field.

I certainly think we can but a couple guys are going to have to emerge as solid Friday and Saturday starters.
