But seriously, the way LSU plays and creates turnovers, why try for touchbacks. Give you cover team a chance to blast midget UO returners and create fumbles

Only on the Rant will you find someone bitching about our kicking game over the past 3-5 years. David and Jasper were two of the best kickers to ever wear purple and gold.

I think the tigers did alright last night!

not find a kicker that can kick the football into the end zone
i know right? also, while we are at it, why we can't get a waterboy that can't keep the gatorade at 33 degrees.... or an equipment manager that washes the jersey in Tide, instead of Gain...
fricking LSU and their piss poor excuse of a football program...

I have loved our kicking game during that time period
so not kicking it that far isn't really a big deal.

Last night had to be one of the better kicking/special teams nights ever. The only thing missing was a fake punt or fake fg. Seriously, you're gonna complain about our kicking game??
No.. We had an amazing special teams night, we did not have an amazing kicking night.

He didn't say anything about field goals..

The average starting position after kickoff for UO last night was the 25. They broke a couple up to around the 35, but also committed penalties on 3 others to start around the 10.
Miles has said on more than one occasion he likes to have a high kickoff to give the coverage team a chance to make a play, just like you saw Loston do last night.
With the defense we have, I think we can afford to give up 10 yards 2 or 3 times a game as a trade off for the chance of fumbles and turnovers.

This, LSU has kickers that can kick the ball very deep. The current kicker, Alleman, was routinely kicking them out of the endzone in high school ( yards difference still puts the ball in the middle of the endzone). However, when you try to kick it very deep, you won't kick the ball as high, and if you misshit the ball at all, it turns into a line drive kick that can be better returned. LSU likes to opt for the high kickoff near the sidelines inside the 10 yard line to let the speedy cover guys get down the field and try to limit any chances of a big return.

lol, I seriously thought his name was Seth Cannon and not Seth Mannon. I feel like an idiot saying Cannon whenever talking about him.

I think this is a valid criticism from last night. Allowing starting field position on the 35 doesn't seem like a good risk if you think your kicker can routinely force touchbacks on returns. If the coaches feel this is the best kick off strategy for our team then the execution needs some work. We got bailed out a couple of times from Oregon penalties on returns.

It is embarrassing when Auburn's kicker is kicking it through the uprights on the kickoff and our kickers struggle the ball to the 15.

We haven't done this in at least 35 years.
FIFY.
I go back to at least Gene(?) Barthel. He kicked straight on, not "soccer" style. I believe Juan Betanzos was the first sideways kicker LSU had.
I can't remember an LSU kicker who could consistently kick it out of the endzone. Maybe Ronnie Lewis, but I'm not sure.

We have a high school comit who kicks it out of the end zone 8 out of 10 times. Not into but out.

Can't recover fumbles kicking it in the endzone.
