Her natural position is a 2. As said, she came here to try and transition to point. It just didn’t work out, and we have two pretty good players at 2 and 3 so not really needed there.

I think she was playing injured and also the competition is much better in the SEC
Also, she was trying a new position that takes time to adjust. That's why Mulkey said she wished she had 2 years to work with her.

I'll never understand the hate HVL gets. It takes a ton of sacrifice and selflessness to come here and do what she did last year, going from the 1st/2nd option at Louisville to the 4th or 5th here and learning a new position basically out of need for the team.
I'll also never question her loyalty to the team after the Cardoso/flaujae incident at the SECT.
Do you remember who the first player was to go at Cardoso after she put Flaujae into the scorers table???
It was Hailey... she ran from the baseline on the other end of the floor to stick up for her.

It's hard for any player to go from star player on one team to role player on another team. When you have huge egos like Angel Reese, a lot of players struggle taking a back seat to anyone because they are also talented. Van Lith's extremely talented, but just wasn't a good fit with that particular team.

She was a square peg in a round hole. She's a create shooting guard, the team uses a pass first PG. They tried it, it didn't work.

Van Lith wanted to see if she could become a point guard. She was a shooting guard at Louisville. Mulkey took her, because she was a very good offensive player, and we did not have a point guard. It did not work for Van Lith. She is now playing shooting guard again and is having great success.
