Hello all. I just opened a new LLC for my anesthesia business. I was thinking about getting an airline credit card to put all of the business expenses on it and pay it off at the end of the month. My wife and I fly about 4-5 times a year for vacation. I was thinking of racking up some miles to pay for some of the flights. Any particular card is better than the other? Any pointers? Good or bad?

For the vacation traveler I'd suggest an indirect approach to airline credit card...go with Chase Ink Business Preferred, mostly for the benefits of transfer partners and moving points. You can couple that with the Chase Ink Unlimited (1.5 points everywhere) and Chase Ink Cash (5x points on business supplies), actually use those cards for increased point generation and then transfer the points to the Preferred card for best redemption value.

All 3 cards have reasonable spend requirements to achieve their signup points bonuses as well.

I don't normally do this, but I am going to plug a guy that could really help you.

Mile Method

Instagram : milemethod

I am a points whore so I study this stuff and get really into it. My parents were always asking how to do the point stuff and there really is a science behind it all to maximize value.

I have known this guy for 10 years and hooked him and my parents up.

They now have about 3,000,000 points after 2 years of working with him and now always are flying biz class and staying at awesome resorts "free"

I've never plugged him before but he could really help you out if you don't want to get in the weeds of all this.

Holy shite, this dude made a living tracking credit card deals so he can tell people what to sign-up for and maximize their CC points for discounted vacations. I want to hate him so much, but I am actually commenting so I can come back and look into this later

Quick question. Do you know what the expected/average spend rate would be to be able to hit some of these mile goals?

Yep!

And he helps plan vacations to maximize points. Odd gig, but he provides value to people who don't want to learn all this stuff.

When he started, $500 for a year. But I think it has gone up.

I actually have my personal as well as other LLCs with Chase. I need to look at this approach more closely

American Express Reserve. If you travel; especially if you use your cc a lot, I don't think there is a better deal.

Free companion flight, reimbursement for TSA precheck, centurion lounges, etc.

Its $2,000 for 18 months. But he claims 2-3 million points in 18 months, so that would be well worth it. I'm intrigued. Going to talk to my wife about it tonight.

I’d go with a card not affiliated with an airline, eg Chase Ink or Amex Platinum. Gives you more options to transfer points when the time comes.

My hesitation is that I have a lot of the big point credit cards already and would not be eligible.

Depends on what airlines are available where you live

Southwest offers a free companion pass+ bonus miles (wife) for a year, my wife flew with me to Michigan, LA, Cincinnati; Charleston and San Diego on the pass and I used the points. The pass just ended so I canceled the card and can sign back up in 24 months.

United Mileage is great for international flights. Able to fly us both to Europe every three years on points and the occasional flight to Chicago for my wife's family's weddings. Annual fee is covered by free bags, after one flight you are ahead.

I honestly don't see the point of amassing 3 million points that fast anyway unless you're flying international business maybe at least 3 -6 times in the next 2 years. A good high redemption hotel is going to run a about 100-300k Hyatt (other hotel chains require more but hand them out like candy) points depending on how long you stay, so that tweaks the math a bit but still.

Points are always devaluing, so getting those bonuses now and not using them for 2 years isn't a great strategy.

I think having about 1-1.5m points in the bank at any one time if you can manage it is about right. You'll also likely side step most bank application rules at that rate of application.
