We were quoted last year for a 12x25 rectangle inground $62K plus another $10 for coping and a heater I think.
Installed a 28' round semi inground pool, and huge deck for under $25K. If you don't want a diving board, look into something like that.

I put up an above ground pool about 10 years ago to see if I would like a pool or not. I loved it. I bought a house with an in ground pool last summer and would never own a house without a pool in the South again. I'm in the pool all weekend.

Just under two years ago my brother had a pool with sun shelf, hot tub, the cage, and full buildout including retaining wall done for $55,000. He's in Fort Myers. Said within a couple months of his being completed the same company was charging $80k for that package.

I was just quoted $275K, but it was next level insanity. Architect got a little crazy. No chance, no way.
I’d love to see what 275k was going to get you. Finished my pool for around 80k to 85k last June and that included fire bowls, hot tub, extra drainage, and grass around the pool.

Vinyl line pools are about 1/2 to 1/3 of the cost and I would imagine the install wait wouldn't be as long.
Of course the liner has to be replaced every 7 to 10 years

That sounds insane unless you are doing something elaborate.
I built a custom gunite 17x30 5 years ago for around 70k with a spa and sundeck with travertine decking. That included all the equipment too.

My electric bill only spiked around $20-30 a month. Roughly 200 KwH. A variable speed pump is an absolute must with modern pools.
I'd say my annual expense this year is around $700 but that's because we got bent over the barrel and shown the 50 states with chlorine this year and I had quite a few chemical problems at the beginning of this year.

Our pool was down for a month a few years ago. It was about $20 less year over year for that month. When we use the heater (usually thanksgiving and Christmas break), it is another $50-100 month more. Honestly, pool costs for us (knock on wood) have been very minimal. When something small breaks on the vacuum or the pump, we YouTube it and order a part.

I bought a house with a pool. I hate it. I can not fathom anyone would spend even $1 for another headache. Something that cost time or money or both to maintain. You use it for 4 months.
We actually go to the country club pool more
We do use ours though... about 2-3 times per month. It is a hassle toting stuff there and back. So much more laundry with washing towels and such. If it was up to me, I would fill it in. I am not a pool person.

We just bought a house with an above-ground pool in the backyard. I had every intent to tear it down, but my wife has already been using the ever-living hell out of it.

We just had one built. 67k for 16x35 fiberglass with a hot tub. Start to finish was a little less than 2 months and I didn’t start looking until May. They began in June.

Guess it depends on where you live, but in Baton Rouge we use our pool from the May to October. So a solid six months. The other months we just use the connected Hot Tub, which is also awesome.

As a new pool owner, what does this mean specifically? How often do you vary the pump speed in your regular schedule (low/medium/high) and how long do you run in a typical day? I'm still in the plaster curing stage, brushing and vacuuming daily, running pump about 12 hours per day.
Thanks!

Yeah, not sure about that one. Ours being built is heated so I’m hearing you can run it March to October unless it’s a brutally cold spring or fall. Raised spa is a go whenever. That’s the only way I would have done it up here in N Virginia. No other reason to have a pool if it wasn’t heated.

We have a variable speed pump. Can crank up for vac, can run lower for slower better filtering, quiet as can be at lower speeds and saves a ton on electriciy. Uses about 3 kwh per day verus like 13 for a conventional pump.
I am going off memory and am ignorant of such matters as electricity but this is what I think I remember researching bout energy use.

Yeah, not sure about that one.
We did not get a heater or chiller, may revisit one day, but I dont care how warm it is, I am not getting in it and freezing my butt off getting out.

I’d rather sale my house and buy a house with a pool.
