This isn’t happening every year. Missed our chance. Minus olympics we won’t see this often

The loss sucks but it gives a good idea how well matched up the two teams are heading into the Olympics next year. McDavid got his 2010 Crosby moment tonight, can't let that happen again.
Roster-wise, I wouldn't change much. I'd add Pionk on D but otherwise wouldn't think the group needs any changes, same for goaltending.
Offense, I think they whiffed on leaving Tage and Robertson off for Nelson and Kreider. Can't have them all on the team, Keller would fit like a 13th forward. He's good, but too many others are better.

Am I wrong in thinking that Canada has a much older roster than ours?

Was just announced that there will be a World Cup of hockey every 4 years. So every four years we get World Cup, every four years Olympics. Alternating.
That's probably enough. If it happens every year it gets stale and overplayed. Every other year keeps it fresh.
The big takeaway is the players want to go best on best more.
Hockey players play. It's what they do.

Was in part because they let some of those like Doughty, Marchand and Stone play who would have been there for the last two Olympics that Gary had them missed. Plus Sid obviously
Canada usually goes a little older in any case in terms of roster build. They traditionally have snubbed those like Sid, Stamkos etc at the start of their careers
I assume you see a little younger of a forward group for the next one. D corps probably will skew a little older once again.

Jason Robertson is the worst skater in the NHL so I'm not opposed to his exclusion from the team, however Tage Thompson over old arse Kreider and Brock nelson all day

As a dual citizen I would never bet against Canada in hockey. Best on best is best. Need to see a Leafs Cup win in my lifetime and therefore Auston Matthews has to have a McJesus moment. Just so all the new fans understand next year in Italy with IIHF rules and refs this is not gonna be the style of hockey that wins gold, any sort of fight stick violation will be called without exception- it will severely limit physicality.

If we're gonna lose, at least it was at the hands of the best player in the world in McDavid.
Good to see that this is going to be an event every four years from here on.

Idea it’s been a decade since this type of thing happened is all down to Bettman.

My Canadian friend is also a huge (and long suffering) Habs fan.
He will be somewhat happier this week since I have to buy him lunch due to that OT win by Canada.

Never bet against Binnington when there’s a championship on the line.

What?? That’s the one guy you can’t let beat you.

I feel like the pace and style greatly favored Canada.
Cos it did. Speed and skill is the Canadian game. And hell, McDavid and MacKinnon are frigging cheat codes.
Austin Matthews and Jack Eichel played fantastic defensive games, but Matthews has to put the biscuit in the basket in order for the US to take the crown.
Still, one thing is for sure: the USNDP is paying dividends. USA Hockey has finally gotten their act together as it relates to trying to be an international power. The goal tending is superb, the defense is superb (really missed McAvoy), and the forwards are made of sandpaper. But still need a touch more skill. The Canadians have their best crop of forwards likely ever. Nothing to sneeze at. Just wish we had a rubber match. Put it in Detroit, right on the border, and let's frigging go.

McDavid is literally generational. He's on pace to go down as one of the top 3 players to have ever worn skates.
I have nothing but respect for that man. He's actually just built different.

Yep. By the time he's done he'll be up there with Gretzky, Howe and Crosby.

How in the world did the US lose track of McDavid? He had so much space and time he could have made a grilled cheese sandwich....

That's what makes the true all time greats the true all time greats. They just find a way to be in a position

I’m not disputing that. What I mean by “you can’t let him beat you” is that you can’t give his arse wide open fricking shots!
