Convince me a Players Union and CBA isn't coming to college football?

I hate it. But the sort of professional, sort of amateur pretend blend we've got right now is just dumb.
Players have contracts. But also contracts don't mean anything and they can just leave even after they've "re-signed". The Demond Williams situation is absurd indictment of where things are. He agreed to a new deal. But now he's leaving. Washington doesn't want to let him leave. But he doesn't want to play there.
In the NFL, this is a holdout and there's means to deal with it. The contract the player agreed to is enforceable. He either gets fined while hes not participating or they come to an agreement to trade him somewhere else.
Eventually I just think were going to hit a wall where teams get tired of players being poached after they've been "signed". But then the players are going to want their interests to be collectively represented as to the agreement of them providing work. What a mess this is.

They should pay him to be there instead of his image then, their fault not his

You’re gonna have to get a whole bunch of different conferences to agree on something. Good luck.

Ah but we can't pay players for their athletic services. We wouldn't want them to no longer be amateur student athletes

I can't imagine any way forward like it is, but I also recognize that for a CBA to happen there are a bunch of people who are going to have to stop looking out for their Conference and Programs to come to this kind of an agreement. Consider me skeptical.

Will not happen for a shitload of reasons, one of the biggest being that many states explicitly bar themselves from participating in collective bargaining negotiations with public employees (which is what the players would become).
Also the schools would have to give up A LOT more of the pie than they currently do to get players to the table.
A college union/cba is pretty much dead in the water. There is no currently existing path.

Honest Question: Why would they want one? The current system favors the players. They are free agents every year. Why would they want to give that up?

I feel like the G5 conferences would gladly agree to it since it would help prevent their best players from having a good season and then immediately jumping to a P4. Or the whole thing with playing 4 games and then opting out for the rest of the season to redshirt and preserve their year of eligibility to transfer somewhere else.

It’s the only solution at this point. Make them employees with contracts and buyouts. boosters can pay signing bonuses

The ones who don’t want to “play school” should be told to have at their own minor league. If you don’t want to play school, then why do you want to wear a school’s name on your jersey?

You can want to “play school” and get your slice of the billions at the same time

We still legitimately enforcing academic eligibility? Passing real classes?

What’s your definition of real classes? Because athletes have been taking bullshite classes for at least 30 years

The schools have zero interest in this set up.

There should be a union and CBA to bring a semblance of stability to the current insanity. However, the players and their “representation” are going to fight like hell to make sure that never happens. There has never been a better time than now to either be a player or a leech getting rich off of that player.

Should have already happened.

If so, high school kids can claim the same. HSs make money using athletics.

I think that's exactly what's going to happen.
Either that, or congress somehow gives some power back to the NCAA.

Hence why Congress needs to get involved.
