Seems to be close to the DAT consensus. They will sign him tomorrow.

In addition, have to do something at 1B and LF in 2023.

Correa isn’t worth on the field what he wanted to be paid. Teams that stay at the top for a long time don’t give out those contracts. Teams that remain relevant for a long time are the teams that find value. They find players that are worth more on the field than they’re being paid. Flexibility is extremely important in making moves to improve the team and stay at the top of baseball both now and well into the future. It’s not popular with many fans, but it’s smart management.

After being a little emotional last night, I agree with this. Even before last night I stood firm that Correa wasn’t worth what he was asking due to his injury history. I despised everything about Carlos Lee and I wouldn’t have wanted to go through something like that again.

I am not familiar with Pena, but would much rather him start at SS than Diaz. See what the young kid can do.

If a 27 yo team leader at a premium position ain’t getting a long term deal, ain’t nobody getting one from Crane. I don’t disagree with their business model, it just seemed like this would be the one if there ever was going to be one.

I would love to hear more details on why they couldn’t get the 3 year deal done though. Or at least what the Astros did offer.

I guess you could argue even that shorter deal wasn’t in their best interest considering they have two big extensions to work on, maybe 1B and LF to fill next year, and hopefully JV pitching well and opting into the 2nd year of his deal. That’s not even considering possible extensions for young pitchers. Tough to keep a talented team together.

Correa’s best spot in the order was 6

.280 hitter w 25 HR and 85 RBIs IF he stays healthy is not worth 30 M long term

We will miss his defense, arm, and leadership, which probably has more value than we can appreciate, but the only way it pays is if you win it all

And your chances are probably better to do that by picking up 3-4 guys at the deadline like the Braves did, missing their best player, Acuna

Saw an article/video by idiot Jim Bowden saying Astros are a middle of the road AL since we didn't sign Correa, yet he was guaranteeing that we would resign him.

He's a fricking phony. He doesn't know shite.

If Pena flops, Bregman doesnt bounce back, and Ted and Yed regress at all, there will be a boatload of Nostradamuses

The Tigers floated a deal for about $275M to Carlos Correa before the lockout (and before they signed Javier Baez), when he was seeking $330M-$350M. But with two opt-outs there's a chance this works out as well or better.

Today might be the most irrelevant Astros game ever played.

Check out the box scores. I've never heard of most of these guys. Most of them are A ball and lower.

Dusty said starters aren't going to start playing until Tuesday or so.

Opt outs after the first two seasons. I’m assuming the Astros weren’t going to agree to that.

Why not? That's essentially what they were doing this year.

So if he opts out the Red Sox can retain his rights at different terms... curious about this

quote:

If Story opts out and the Red Sox opt back in, a 7th year is added at $25M. Since there is a $5M buyout the total would then be $160M. @Joelsherman1 on it
