Santa Clara a 20+ point dog had an early lead on Arizona, then Arizona took control with a 25-0 run.
But over the final 15+ minutes until under 10 seconds, Santa Clara and Steve Nash held Arizona to just one field goal.

Yep, opening game, jumped off the bus and halled arse home. Think I caught the last 10 minutes. Want to say it was relatively close but Lamont and Beshera pulled it away. Have a vhs of the Utah game somewhere.

That UK team struggled early on but everything finally clicked in March. I don't know if we could've beaten them a fourth time in the title game.

Duke/UCF is another incredible first weekend game that comes to mind.

Florida Gulf Coast is the goat. They were fun as shite to watch and were having a great time doing it.

Ron Hunter, with a leg cast, falls off his stool as his son hits a three from the logo with seconds left to lift 14 seed Georgia State over 3 seed Baylor

Meh, the series is 13-3.

I was there as well as a student. Mom bought me tickets for my birthday. Got to see 6 games. It was a blast, but those 2 LSU games were awesome

1986 LSU hosted the first round tourney as an 11-seed upset both Purdue with a double OT win and Memphis St. on Anthony Wilson's buzzer beater. Great weekend.
Both coaches were furious they had to play on the home court of a lower seed. I think they stopped the practice of allowing teams to play tournament games on their home court either the next year or soon after.
But two thrilling games. LSU went on to upset Georgia Tech and Kentucky and make the Final Four.

March Madness is the strangest thing. Fans want upsets in the round of 64. Last year fans complained that “NIL ruined March Madness” because there weren’t a lot of upsets. BUT fans don’t want the underdog teams to actually make it to the elite 8 or final four, because then people will bitch about the fact that the blue bloods aren’t in it.
2023 when a Final Four matchup was Fla Atlantic vs San Diego St(great game and finish btw) all I heard from the sports media in Final Four week was that this is the worst final four ever because the TV ratings will be low because no blue bloods.
Just the strangest shite ever. More people talk about Doug Edert from St. Peter’s and Jack Gohlke from Oakland than they do the actual fricking national champs from that season(Kansas and UConn.) In no other sport does this happen.
