It does when you consider playing and coaching require 2 different skill sets. Players are primarily evaluated on athleticism and physical attributes. Belichick preferred corners to be at least 6’ and 180 lbs and run at least a 4.5 40. None of those attributes make you a good coach.
That still doesnt explain why there are only 3 black coaches considering the vast majority of the league is black

I’ve always assumed a high number of successful coaches were guys who knew pretty early they couldn’t cut it as a player in major cfb/nfl or had the mind for the game but nowhere near the physical attributes and hit their ceiling early.
Many black candidates fit that description too

The vast majority of coaches were terrible NFL players, if they even played at all.

According to ESPN Stats & Information, since 2000 there have been 117 head coaches in the NFL, but only 25.6 percent of them were players in the league before they became coaches.

If you're a black coach with an interview in the NFL, do you think to yourself, "is this a Rooney Rule deal or are they actually interested?" every time you get a call? I just feel like these forced interviews don't really benefit anyone.
Of course they serve a purpose. These interviews let the self-hating, white savior types feel good about themselves because they're helping those poor, poor black coaches that need a helping hand. And it gives the grievance industry perpetual victim types who host ESPN shows something to cry about.

I don’t doubt it. But how many are the “qb whisper” young OC type that seems to be more and more en vogue?
I honestly have no idea. What I do always hear is something along the lines of “you want your coach and qb to be in sync” or some other generic shite like that.
It seems that most black HCs seem to be defensive oriented/leader of men types. I wonder if the “issue” is more at the OC/co-OC play-caller level than at the HC one. If you had more black guys in those roles would more then transition to the HC jobs?
I have no idea if less black guys go into coaching the offensive side of the ball than defensive but if I was doing a deep dive into potential reasons for the dearth of black coaches that’s probably where I’d first look.

frick it lets just hire a black guy every time there’s an open job.
Maybe that will make them happy.
IT WON'T.....not until it is ALL destroyed

Why is the league 70% black when the US population is only 13% black?

Exactly. Get so tired of this shite. They only want the best players, but cry about not having enough shitty coaches.

Correct. Certain people have latched on to this idea that because the league is black, the majority of the coaches should be black. The majority of NBA coaches are white despite the league being predominantly black. Somehow Doc Rivers still has a job. This is all so stupid.

Goodell should give up his job so that a black man would have a chance at getting it. If a black man is running the league, maybe more owners would want a black man coaching their teams.

Looks like the NFL hates us white folks. Guess I will permanently stop watching

These “leadership” people can’t seem to grasp how demeaning their public positions are to the people they believe they are trying to promote.

You can't make people happy if they don't wanna be happy.

Whites need to be more represented on the field.

So only 30% of active coaches even played in the league. It’s just a totally different skill set.
