Nope. Nothing to gain from lying about it

Yeah that's weird. The youngest in my grade turned 17 in August of our senior year. And she was the youngest by FAR.

By the end of their freshman year, 90% of kids are 15. Summer birthdays are only 14 year olds left

quote:Yep. I would say 90% are 15, 5% are 16, and 5% are 14 still.

I would say by start of sophomore year 80% are 15 and 20% are 16
Or something like that

That’s probably fairly accurate

So, instead of parsing census data, can we get back to the topic at hand.
Anyone have any opinions on the Div IV bracket?

We will have to make the choice on making him turn 16 at end of freshman year, or not turn 16 until the end of sophomore year
Im leaning towards making him one of the older ones rather than one of the younger ones. I just dont see the negatives
Posted on 5/6/19 at 9:41 am to lsupride87
You just have to make that decision before 5th grade now.
April is not a terrible birthday. Yes he will be young, but not like if it was August.
I had a September birthday. Was always the oldest. Turned 18 beginning of senior year.

So it looks like he was held back in 2017?
nope that's not legal unless he got a hardship
You sure? On 4-30-2015 he could have been 12 starting 6th grade and played 12u, Being held back in 6th he would be 13 on 4-30-2016 and played 13u. With the new rule in effect for 2017, he could be in 7th grade, be 14 on 4-30-17 and play 13u again. Then be in 8th grade be 15 on 4-30-2018 and play 14u

You can't hold back once you hit 6th grade. If you do holdback, it must take place prior to 6th grade.
It hurts baseball prospects because they want them as young as they can get them.

This is most certainly true and a shared opinion of every respected baseball person that I have discussed it with.
Of course there are some Div III fans that would beg to differ

I know they're the number one seed, but I imagine Ouachita Christian is the clear favorite? I think Opelousas Catholic is the only one in the field without a kid committed to play anywhere in college.

Then I'm looking at it wrong. Possible he has always played up. That would throw off what I was thinking of age vs grade vs playing age
Posted on 5/6/19 at 10:20 am to Cuz413
Or he was held back earlier and elected to change playing classification later on
Posted on 5/6/19 at 10:21 am to JJ27
Agree that it hurts MLB prospects. It helps college baseball prospects. The colleges now are offering earlier than ever, and the early developers and filling up faster than ever. There are kids getting offered in the 8th grade now, many 9th graders are getting SEC offers. If you are a late bloomer it hurts your college baseball recruiting, especially with the bigger schools, as they are usually full a year or two in advance, but I agree with you that it can work against you on the professional level.
Posted on 5/6/19 at 10:25 am to TigerAlum93
Yeah but you’re forgetting the 20 year old rule that allows kids to leave college earlier than the 3 years removed from college that most adhere to. So it can really be held against them. LSU has had several of these players recently.
