I realize that the bracket may say Deridder was a 12 but I watched a lot of 4a ball this year and it is extremely top loaded. Upsets obviously happen when it comes down to 1 game but still 4a outside of the top 5 or 6 teams is pretty weak.

I would agree with that.
But with so many teams and so many brackets, and district play meaning absolutely nothing anymore, LA state playoffs are like the NBA, just wait for the finals.

Smart move. They've gotta go against EA and win twice. No doubt that they SHOULD but EA can be tricky. Wouldn't mind watching that series. It will be better than a 4 vs 20 should be.

I'm not necessarily against the splitting of public and private schools but it's clear that the number of teams making it should be cut down tremendously.
I would think a 3 round playoff system where all 3 rounds are 2/3 would be much improved. If you really wanted that 4th round then you could have a single elimination "play-in" round for some of the weaker schools to have a chance to make it in.
Would mean seeds 1-4 get a bye to the second round while seeds 5-8 play seeds 9-12 in a single elimination game. Then you re-seed for the 3 round double elimination match-ups.
