Let me guess the younger grades are packed?

Seems like everybody lost enrollment this cycle

The junior and senior classes are small. They will wash out. There are other reasons but this is a big one.

Jesuit up slightly
Martin down slightly
HC down slightly
Rummel down slightly
ST Aug up slightly

Nothing significant either way for this group.

Shaw is up a good bit for a 2 year span and they are pushing right against the 5A threshold.

South Terrebonne and Ellender should just combine. The parish missed the chance to force this after Ida destroyed both schools. If they joined together, they would only have 200 more kids than Terrebonne.

Single gender schools count twice, so only 100+ away.

By the next cycle they will have a 5A number or very close to it so it's a moot point anyway.

Y’all would need to grow by 100 kids in 2 yrs

You seem connected… is that likely? That’s 20 percent plus growth in 2 years

I have also heard rumblings about Holy Cross dropping down in some sports, but have also heard that they are bringing their swimming and soccer up to D1?

Early November we will know for sure.

The rule now is if you want to play up in class, 5A is your only option. You can’t be 2A in enrollment and play in 4A, you can be 2A and if you choose to play up, you go all the way to 5A. Otherwise you have to play in your enrollment class. It was all over sports radio here this morning and apparently most of the principals who voted had no idea this rule was in there.

This needs to be fixed. If anything they need to make more schools play up a class. The haves and have nots has never been greater. Some bigger schools barely field a team.

If their enrollment numbers call for them to be at the lower classification, why were they told no?

Last year wasn’t a reclassification year

As someone who has coached in both Louisiana (Boothville-Venice) and Texas, it's amazing to me that the largest Louisiana school would not even qualify for 6A in Texas... meaning over 250 high schools here are larger than the largest Louisiana school.

Also, I would think South
Plaquemines, who is doing well in 2A, should really benefit being in 1A.

Like I said earlier, they will be there or close. 2 smallish classes will wash out and the new leadership has been much more aggressive competing for students in what is an extremely competitive environment for students without even mentioning athletes.

If Holy Cross drops down they are making the growth case more difficult not easier. Kids from the Catholic feeder schools want to play Jesuit and Rummel and Brother Martin not some schools they never heard of.

Yes winning helps as some other posters have said and yes Holy Cross needs to punch significantly above their weight but they are competitive across the board in football, baseball, basketball, wrestling, swimming and soccer among other examples against schools with double the enrollment such is the case with Martin and Jesuit. It's actually very impressive all things considered.

I'm only connected in that my family history goes back to the 1950s, I'm a graduate myself and I have 2 sons at the school.

The future of Holy Cross is very bright I can assure you. The concern trolls can relax.

Yes, they need to grow the enrollment, yes they would love more money like all of these schools. Yes it's a very competitive landscape.

The leadership team at the school is stronger than it has been since the group that saved the school after Katrina.

Kids want to win… it’s the adults that are more worried about whom they play

No question. The whole conversation is silly though. Holy Cross is very competitive across all major sports at the top level.

Some here act like they are getting run off the field like everyone does against Karr.

Even if Holy Cross drops to 4A it's not like they will magically turn into some dominant entity.

4A is also very competitive.

I don't know what the case is for moving to 4A. More winning? Is that guaranteed? Might be less winning. It makes no sense to me but I've been wrong before. We shall see.

I enjoy the discussion. Thanks for doing these threads every week.

This would have been too easy. Then again, what campus would you have chosen to put the school? If you’re from here, you know all too well that these two groups don’t get along anymore. Furthermore, I feel rebuilding Ellender is a bad idea. Lower Terrebonne parish continues to lose population fast combined with the growing popularity of HCS and covenant causes numbers problems.

You would have to do at ST. They have the land to do it. Plus with all the new roads, it doesn't take that long to get from Grand Caillou to E Park.

Those people went to the same school before. Ellender opened in the early 90's if I'm not mistaken. Just suck it up.

Take Ellender's campus and turn it into a Career Magnet Center like Lafourche has.
