50 bucks I'll take WM -17.

And let's face it, my Hahnville Tigers are usually better than 3-4 this point of the season. Even Destrehan is having a shite year. That doesn't help schedule strength either.

quote:just out of curiosity how did they end up on yalls schedule? Probably the biggest thing that jumped out at me when they released the schedules for the area... I laughed and felt a little sorry for berwick at the same time.
berwick

they were gonna play 1A delcambre and delcambre backed out to play erath... i don't think we had anyone scheduled the first week.
i wasn't too impressed either, and then we played them in the middle of TS Lee... at least we went God mode on them like we should have
it happens... jesuit has played varnado and west feliciana recently. brother martin plays a 2A sized school in the middle of the pack in Alabama next week. ouachita played ringgold and ruston played arcadia this season

There are tie-breaker situations to determine the district champ. Only one team is "officially" the district champ as far as determining auto-bids for the playoffs.
FALSE! Every team finishing first or tied for first is automatically placed on the bracket.

i think wm will win out. they are much better than people think young offense is getting much better and the defense is nasty.

interesting stuff in the clarion herald by ed daniels and ron brocato...
LINK
on the link i think he's referring to the rummel-holy cross game a couple weeks ago... some HCers got thrown out of that one. the game last week i think he was at was warren easton-st. aug. they have some bad blood after last year
the coach a parent tried to get fired i think was on the Northshore. based on nola.com ranting probably Covington's or Mandeville's
LINK
for as much pride as black New Orleans has for their neighborhoods, other than St. Aug, they don't nearly show that same pride supporting their high schools. this is an east bank thing because for some reason (probably because they win) karr, o.p. walker, etc. bring some fans. warren easton brought a few when they played at chalmette. i guess to me the support you show at a football game is one barometer of the strength of a school. it's too bad we can't force people to care.
west jeff was ranked #2 in the state preseason, #2 in the metro area, predicted to be 1st in district... i thought they'd be a great addition to a district that wants to be the best. but now with this coming out, and marcus scott's comments, i don't know how much i like them now. maybe we should have got bonnabel instead of them, had we known what reggie rogers would do there in year 1.
personally i think $7 is too little for the best HS football you're going to see in this area and possibly the state. $10 is the right number for a big time matchup like Rummel and West Jeff, and I wish we'd charge $10 for Chalmette-Holy Cross.
1. this should have been on paper when all the district ADs met before the season.
2. i wonder if West Jeff charged $7 on their side and $10 on the Rummel side
as for us, why don't we have the same deal the Catholic schools get? i think we should let their students in for free and they should do the same for us... probably something about public school required record-keeping.

Each of the schools in District 9-5A, which includes Brother Martin, Archbishop Rummel and Jesuit with public schools West Jefferson and Chalmette, has a separate revenue-sharing arrangement.
When the three Catholic schools play each other, they keep their own presale and split the gate receipts after expenses, which the home and visiting schools share. In addition, students and faculty are admitted free by showing their I.D cards.
The Catholic schools’ agreement with Chalmette is that the home team keeps the gate receipts. But all students must pay to see the game.
But there is an unresolved issue with football games hosted by West Jefferson. There is an unwritten agreement among district members that admission to games is $7 at the stadium site. However, West Jefferson charged $10 at the Hoss Memtsas Stadium gate for its game against Rummel last week, according to Rummel AD Phil Greco. And the surprised Rummel fans gladly paid the inflated price to support their team.

No. They aren't. Go look at the link I posted. 5A has nine districts. Therefore, there are 9 "auto-bids" into the bracket. There are 23 "wild cards" that get in for 5A.
That means you have 9 district "first-place representatives" + 23 wildcards = 32 total playoff teams.
Now, the chances are that any team tied for first place in a district is going to have a high enough power ranking to get them into the playoffs. However, only ONE team from each distrcit is guaranteed a spot.

yeah IIRC they flip a coin for district champs

Well, now actually, I just saw something else that makes this a little more "fuzzy" than I previously thought. Here's the text from the rules:
14.13.1 reads to me that it is up to each district to determine whether they will have a "first place representative" or not. This appears completely contracdictory to 14.10.5 as well as the "Wildcard Program" table in 14.11.
So it looks as though bengaltygers and myself could both be right in certain instances. Strange.
quote:
14.13 CRITERIA FOR WILDCARD SELECTION
14.13.1 Only the team that is certified as the first place representative from the district or all teams that finish in a tie for first-place
in the district shall automatically qualify for the state playoffs from that district.
14.13.2 In completing the playoff bracket, all other teams qualifying for the state playoffs shall be selected on the basis of the established
power rating scheme.
14.13.3 Each district shall use Rule 14.10.5, to certify its first place team when ties exist.
14.13.4 The remainder of the byes on the bracket will be filled with wildcard teams (teams that did not automatically qualify) using
the highest power rating in descending order to fill the bracket.

pretty sure it is decided district by district
meaning it is up to each district to decide its champion

Wrong all district champs and co champs are guarenteed a spot. If one of the co champs is not in the top 32 the 32 seed gets bumped and the co-champ replaces him. That is how it works and it has happened a few times since the LHSAA has used the power points system.

This.
The LHSAA Handbook is full of these contradictory rules. They just keep adding new legislation and not going back and adjusting the verbage on previous rules. I have been in too many LHSAA Wildcard selection Meetings and heard the rundown by BJ Guzzardo too many times to not know how it goes.

Can we atleast all agree Co-Champions is a stupid consept when everyone in the district plays each other?
ETA Our district could possibly be tied in 3 way between Zachary, Denham, and Central
Some teams would get screwed if all champs get an auto bid

yeah maybe the 30th, 31st, and 32nd teams could be screwed... no big deal

Central can start worrying about those when they beat both Denham and Scotlandville. Central is like 42 in the power rankings and will have to win the next 3 games to even think about the playoffs. Then if they make it they will be like 25-32 which means a very tough road game.
Central would be better off this year if Dotson would have played Courville #9 more last year instead of the senior QB from last year. Also, Dotson is finally starting to get the ball in some of the playmakers hands as well as playing some of the black DBs instead of a couple of those slow white boys that should have never been starting in the first place. I guess Daddy must have donated some serious money to Central athletics or did some favors for the team.

2 or 3 maybe 4 years ago the CroBears ended the season 3-7 overall and 3-1 in district. They came within minutes of making the playoffs as co-champs. They needed help on the 10th week and I think it was either Laffy or New Iberia needed to beat Acadiana for Carencro to tie for district and get a automatic playoff spot. If I was the 32nd team in power rankings, a 3-7 team bumping me would be a pisser.

They really wanted to start Courville last year but he wasnt ready an never took the time to fully know the offense and never had his head in it
And I cant tell you why those guys were starting, one of them is the most immature annoying guy on the team last year. And the other guy is talented but he is too short to play on the outside and would be better suited aa a nickel IMO but i havent watched them practice so im just going off what i know
