The salary cap makes all offers equal $ in which case players will choose based on where they want to live. With no salary cap great GMs can find bargains and trade assets before they get expensive

Also allows teams to keep fan favorites unlike NFL where there are cap casualties

He posted that in August of 2016...You've raised this thread from the dead.

I don't get this post. Why are you comparing old contracts? Some of these QB's have gotten 40 plus million recently.
I'm on record as hating salary caps, but not because of a lack of fairness. Athletes aren't worth millions of dollars in a practical sense, so they get no sympathy from me. I hate the caps because of how it tears teams apart and makes it very hard for fans to identify with their favorite team, when players come and go so fast.
Leagues with salary caps have this misguided notion that "parity" drives interest. It actually waters everything down, and cheapens the product. The advent of the internet and fantasy sports has grown the interest in professional sports more than anything else, but owners think that parity is the reason for that growth. Fringe fans don't really get into a bunch of "ok" teams. They only care if you are REALLY good. And only the best organizations are able to rise to that level with any consistency. Again, it's the gambling/fantasy sports that keep people engaged. Not the crappy product these leagues put out, 90% of the time.

I started reading the thread and thought "why is the OP bringing up Andrew Lucks contract?"

Sure the little guys pop up year-to-year but where the consistent success? Who is the Boise St of the MLB? Who is the Patriots of the MLB?
Cards, who just completed their 14th consecutive winning season and would've been 22nd if not for 2007. The franchise record is 15 (1939-53)

??????
Parity means exciting games that fans watch into the fourth quarter as opposed to blowouts that they tune out in the 3rd… and also a lot of teams that go late into the season with a chance to make a playoff run as opposed to a few clinching early and others having no playoff chance after week 8

#21 in market size but 9th in payroll
Haven't had the worst record in MLB since 1918.
Haven't had consecutive losing seasons since 1958-59
Nor lost 90 or more games since 1990.
Have a shot to match the franchise record in consecutive winning seasons.
Sounds Patriot like to me, and they had 19 straight.

Are you also factoring in that baseball players like A Rod play 140-150 games (some 162) and football players only play 16?

The irony is he was arguing the NFL has more parity when the KC Chiefs are going to be hosting their 4th straight AFC championship and going for another SB appearance while in MLB the Braves finally won a WS.

How do you randomly post in a 5+ year old thread?

NFL teams also don’t have to finance an entire minor league system either.
If anything, I’d say that MLB needs to restructure before they go the way of the NBA where everyone is either over $20 million plus a year or under $5 million with no real substantial “middle class”.

Congrats on winning an illegitimate WS.
