NEW COLUMN: I don’t know Bryce Harper well but we hung out and played video games in Las Vegas before the start of free agency. I feel the same way now as I did then. He wants to play for the Dodgers. It’s now up to the Dodgers to make the numbers work.

LA Time Bryce Harper

I just want him to stay out of the NL East

I actually love the Mikolas deal. Didn't overpay for the 6th best starter in the NL last year, still only 30 years old with minimal wear and tear on his arm.
Doesn't rely on hard heat that declines as you age instead relies on pinpoint control from smooth mechanics.
Happy for him, awesome guy.

You may start seeing more and more guys resigning with their teams now. Especially with the way the FA market is playing out.

Something may have happened with the Red Sox:

Pete Abraham @PeteAbe 6m 6 minutes ago The #RedSox canceled the daily media availability 12 minutes before it was supposed to start this morning and haven't said why. There is something going on but it's not clear what. Stay tuned.

@PeteAbe: A Red Sox player had what the team described as a “family emergency” this morning. A spokesman said more info will be announced at a later time.

@IanMBrowne: Alex Cora acknowledges it has been a tough morning. "It hurts. It's tough. That's a special group in there. We will be OK. It puts everything in perspective again. It's just a game. It is a tough day."

I'm curious to know what happened. But I also feel bad for being curious.

Pete Abraham @PeteAbe 1h1 hour ago A very somber, quiet and emotional Alex Cora discussed someone having passed away. Then much like last week he talked about having perspective.
I would guess to cancel/postpone things, it has to be a wife/kid

@gfstarr1: Update:
It’s not a Red Sox child, but it’s a terrible tragedy. Won’t say more until the Red Sox announce, so don’t ask me.

Swihart scratched from lineup. Apparently his brother is a Marine.
Maybe?
Maybe?

Romell Jordan was a running back at the University of New Mexico. In his profile on their site they list Blake Swihart as his brother. So they were very close.

Also implies Dodgers willing to go 10 years as well.

Seems like if there were opt outs, the Dodgers would push for the money to be back loaded, no?
