it means that the smaller schools are fixing to get effed in the A.
i'm glad I had embraced my school's new football program just in time for this huge pile of manure that has just been dumped on us.
but who am I trying to kid anyway, we're small time no matter what.

Oh, so we're gonna lose all of our money games too? Great. And by the way, recruits like it when we say we have a Big 5 team on our schedule. They enjoy playing teams they've heard of before.

There's basically a new division created. The "Power 5" division. The new division can make it's own rules separate of the other schools that are left behind. They don't have to take them into consideration anymore.

The one thing that i love in all of this will be what they called "guaranteed" 4 year scholarships. The practice of oversigning and then cutting players is now done. Its about time! The SEC cant like this.

With a football mindset, this might seem like it already existed and it was about time it came about, but the current parity in the smaller sports are getting thrown out the window also.
Really sucks.
Really sucks.

And how can the NCAA say P5 schools can make their rules but everyone else can't? NCAA just signed off on its own death warrant b/c at lest 2 and maybe 3 G5s are going to want to make their own rules too. (AAC, MWC for sure)
The choice was basically let the big 5 do this, or they leave and do it on their own.

Why is it bad in the long term?
First, it will completely destroy the smaller schools who occasionally compete for BCS games, but arent part of the big 5.
Second, eventually, the Bamas, Florida Sts, Texas, Ohio Sts of the world will run College Football. If you honestly dont think conferences will show favoritism in its policies towards the bell cows then you are naive.
Thirdly, it will turn into a total bidding war for high school players. At least now the bag men are hidden and secretive and only the real high profile players are paid. It eventually will turn into a full fledged paid minor league.
In 10 years, the College Football we know will cease to exist.

OR maybe, just maybe, now that ALL 65 teams have voted for this, the new governing body will actually enforce the rules stricter and make compliance a million times better. Within this autonomy, each school will abide by a universal package. If it werent that way, the smaller P5 schools wouldnt have voted for it. I think this makes college football MORE accountable.

That's good. I hate those schools. Either join a real league or piss off.

because we were probably only a few years away from the big 5 doing this anyway

Im not questioning how why they let the P5 do it. I'm wondering how the hell they think they can let the P5 do this while telling all other conferences they aren't allowed to implement the same rules.
This is going to cause a shite ton of lawsuits if they don't allow other conferences to also make their own rules.
Again, the NCAA pretty much just cut its own throat in doing this.
There is no way the AAC or MWC will take this laying down. They are going to want to be able to do all of the "reforms" as well.

Yea? Just like that? Happy to. Where do we send our application forms?

They had to do something. The old system was a race to the bottom in terms of how players were treated and what the schools could do. The big schools shouldn't stuck providing the same benefits and playing by the same rules as bubblefrick directional state who has no money. That's not good for anyone.

Didn't the SEC help promote the rule change to allow multi-year scholarships?

Don't act like this was ever about the players.

Which school in a G5 would turn down an invite from a P5 again? You say that as if schools like Boise and East Carolina are actively avoiding being in a bigger conference.

I don't consider that a bad thing. They should generate money between themselves and not rely on the CFB elite for payouts.

Slippery slope? This is already happening now anyways.

So when do Vandy, Miss St, Ole Miss, Wake Forest, Duke, Kentucky, Baylor, Wazzu, Oregon St etc get the boot? They all rely on the big dogs in their conference to be worth a damn to anyone outside of their own former students.
And just how many school's ADs are actually in the black each year? Its nowhere near the majority of the P5. Better boot all the money losers too.
