It’s 2 different leagues. They didn’t play each other.

Idiot.

I guess that's one way of pandering.

Total records I honestly don’t have an issue with at all. I do have a massive problem with this though:
Gibson's .974 slugging percentage in 1937 becomes the season record, and Barry Bonds' .863 in 2001 dropped to fifth, also trailing Mules Suttles .877 in 1926, Gibson's .871 in 1943 and Smith's .870 in 1929.
Do people understand how averages work? If you play 50 less games, it is astronomically easier to have a higher average. This is asinine to give Gibson every freaking hitting average record while playing 70 less games a season than Bonds.

I’d like to hear it from him, but I *think* he’s saying a *lot* more than that, though perhaps quite unknowingly.

The negro league obviously had some talent but was not nearly as serious and organized as mlb. Record keeping was definitely suspect. And it was more of a spectacle like savanna bananas or something. They had multiple female players that were supposedly dominant which I find hard to believe.
This is just more rewriting history to pander to the woke mob. Probably the same people making a big deal about Caitlyn Clark scoring more against girls than pistol Pete against males.

They've counted for a while. 1920-48.
I wish they would extend it a few more years because Aaron would be ahead of Barroid again.

It’s easy to see with what we know about the races now the negro league was possibly better, or at least as good as the white league, thus making white only records look hollow.
The negro leagues had women play in them. They embellished stats to sell tickets and make more money.
The various leagues definitely had some good players, but they were borderline legitimate at absolute best.

Over at the Seamheads Negro Leagues database, a dedicated few have combed through newspapers and scorebooks, photo albums and microfiche to piece together the most complete statistical record of the Negro Leagues to date.
The main researchers since 2020 have been fighting to get cobbled together stats from newspapers and basically "word of mouth".
Here's the main researchers quote:
. “I grew up with the distinct impression that no statistics could ever be compiled, that it was often unclear what happened at all, and that it was more or less impossible to find out anything for sure about many of the players.”
You know MLB is going to accept the " findings" of a few guys at the Negro League database without question or any vetting.

MLB fans have always been obsessive about stats and comparing players over the decades has been interesting because you felt the game had some continuity and integrity despite some rule changes. Now they’re going to throw all that away to include teams that were playing semi-pro teams and teams with women on them? Including Negro scores is an answer to a question that the VAST majority of us never asked. Of course the nauseating pandering to the least successful minority must not be questioned

I like Clark and have defended her on this site but the scoring title is really a bridge too far. Apples and Oranges.

quote:Because being a supreme athlete gives you a giant advantage in football and basketball. It’s not nearly as drastic in baseball. Baseball is more about skill rather than pure athleticism.
If baseball was the number 1 sport in America for black people, you don’t think they would also have the majority of pro players? Why not? They do so in both football and basketball
Black people have, in general, an athletic advantage over white people. That advantage is less important in a sport like baseball. And because white people have a much larger population than black people, the odds are that the larger talent pool would be a bigger advantage than the athletic advantage black people have.
Black people may have been able to over-represent in pro baseball relative to their population size due to athletic ability, but it would be nowhere near 70% if the league like it is in football and basketball. They wouldn’t even come close to half of the league. Maybe 30% max if I was guessing.
