As a Chief’s fan growing up and we were just getting the ship corrected with Martyball.

Unless you witnessed Elway live, you shouldn’t be commenting in this thread. Absolutely the best arm I’ve ever witnessed, literally threw a football like a baseball.

CJ's hands actually look like that from trying to catch end-over-end and helicopter-spin passes from Reggie Ball at GA Tech.

Elway

Players said he would leave an X on them where the ball hit if they didn't hand catch it.

I had a book when I was younger that was written by a guy at sports illustrated. the strongest arm category was in the book and number one was a guy from a long arse time ago that nobody has ever heard of. the only reason he was number one was that there were people like John Madden and others who watched him throw when they were assistant coaches or players that saw him throw the ball 100 yards.

I think his name was Rudy something but that could be wrong. they had old videos that showed him throw 100 yards ,this was in the 50s or early 60s I think. it was when video first came out really. he may not have even been a starter

Really curious who this could be. Anybody else heard of this?

Remains the most mind-blowing whiff I’ve ever seen. Scary arm strength and accuracy. Just threw it away.

Yeah, JaMarcus Russell was incredible throwing a football, super strong arm. He could throw a football 100 yards easily, but his main problem was reading defenses. Dude was terrible at reading defenses, going through progressions and all of that. His weaknesses in those areas was disguised by the fact that he had 3 great WRs to throw to at LSU by the names of Bowe/Doucet/Davis. Remember them??

There is no record of anyone throwing a football 100 yards.

The longest throw by an NFL player was 76 yards by Randall Cunningham in a QB competition in 1993.

Yes, I do remember these names. From ‘05-‘07 specifically. Very talented group. That may explain why Russell looked so natural a passer.

Russell also went to the Raiders during an extremely dysfunctional stretch. It was his own damn fault. Interesting how that Sugar Bowl between him and Brady Quinn rapidly changed the trajectory of those guys.

There's youtube videos of Josh Allen throwing 77, Mahomes throwing about 77, and I think Testaverde threw 80 at the pro bowl back in the day.

I don't think any of those other throws are officially documented. And the point wasn’t to split hairs over 76 or 77 yards.
