Vaxxed?

Article said they just found him dead, with no readily apparent cause. I'm surprised it took this long to get a vaxxed or boosted comment.

I had some discussions once with a guy that was a scout in the Reds organization. Most of Pete's era was back in the day before huge salaries. Scout said that once Pete got established in MLB, he made friends on pretty much every team. So, on road trips he would stay with a buddy on the opposing team and pocket the per diem money, which was quite a boost to his pay. I guess you can spin that however you want. Maybe it was gambling money. Maybe he was colluding with that player on the outcomes. Maybe it was nothing. Who knows?

I highly recommend the recent MAX documentary (4 episodes I think) on Rose's life. If you are on the fence about the man and whether he should be in the Hall, you may end up with the same opinion.

After one episode, you can't believe anything he says. He's a narcissist, a liar, a manipulator, a user, and set no boundaries for himself.

He was also, as most narcissists are, charming, likable, and a good hang.

The documentary doesn't answer the question should he be in the Hall, but I believe deep down he knew it would be posthumously at best.

The biography by Keith O’Brien that came out earlier this year that I keep referencing, Pete talked to him, was interviewed by him, and Pete says at the end that he knows he fricked it all up.

And there’s a very poignant scene at the end of the book where Tommy Gioiosa, who went to jail for Pete during the gambling mess, ran into Pete at a restaurant in Vegas. Gioiosa said the first thought that ran through his mind was how much prison time he would get for killing Pete with his bare hands. But then he saw Pete sitting there alone and all that melted and he felt pity for him, and went over to the table and Pete greeted him warmly and they sat there and talked about old times like two old friends.

There's a difference. Rose lied and MLB had sufficient evidence.

No one ever played harder than he did. Many of today's players give as little effort as possible. And he was a good analyst on FS1.

the actual rule says "permanently"
not sure where lifetime came into common usage.

you do know it's an actual rule that players banned from baseball are not eligible for the hall?
meaning even if a voter wanted to vote for him, he can't.

Dude, do a Google search and you’ll find a 30-year track record of him talking crap about Pete and saying in the strongest possible terms that he shouldn’t be in Cooperstown.

What do you expect him to do after the man dies, sing “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead?” It’s called saying the proper, diplomatic things, and if you think Johnny actually dictated those words and personally posted it to Twitter you’re worse than naive. Johnny probably told his PR people “Say something nice about Pete.”

He doesn't want to spend his last years being the guy who couldn't/didn't get along with the All Time Hits leader

Bench wasn’t in Nashville, it was Concepcion, Foster, Griffey and Perez.

And one thing I know with metaphysical certainty, his plaque will never be on the wall in Cooperstown. Because fans have zero voice in the matter.

According to Bench's interview today on Dan Patrick, he was supposed to meet with Rose the same day as the other Reds listed. He said the show's organizer had him go on the following day to bring in 2 days' worth of customers. He also said that MLB has nothing to do with any vote, it's the HOF'ers who have the vote that's been keeping Rose out. Sincere or not, when DP asked him how he felt about Rose's passing, mad or sad. Bench answered sad. He added that Rose's hit record gets all the publicity, but said he also got on base 6,000 time, hits, walks, errors, and the year Rose batted .330, the League average was .230.
