No they absolutely did not. Sure they beat UGA, and then subsequently got destroyed by them, at best it was a wash. Their next best win was Vandy which is equal to USC for ND. Bama also took a 14 point L from a terrible FSU team.

For all the "games have to matter folks" justify putting in a 3 loss team over a 2 loss team.

OU

OU on paper had a better resume, but anyone who watched them play could tell they were frauds.

Correct. So you’re admitting that ND’s best win was equal to Bama’s second best win. Thanks for confirming that Bama had a better resume.

Because Bama beat UGA in Athens.

Not sure that negates having Tommy Castellanos drag his nuts all over them, especially when they got stuffed in a locker by UGA in their uncompetitive rematch.

The frustrating part is in 2023 when Bama got in over FSU, resume didn’t matter, it was all about putting teams in that had a chance to win. This year it totally flipped. No one thought Bama or OU had a shot, still got the invite.

The great part is that in the 2 years of the expanded playoff, we've seen teams outside of the top 4 make it to the semis/ final.

2024 top 4 rankings (using CFP final ranking not seeding)
Oregon-Georgia-Texas-Penn State
Semifinals
#5 ND vs #4 Penn St & #6Ohio St vs #3Texas

2025
Indiana-Georgia-Ohio St-Texas Tech
Semifinals
#10 Miami v #6 Ole Miss & #5 Oregon vs #1 Indiana

More from out of the top 4 than from inside of it advanced to the semis.

Hopefully next year will bring 16 teams with all top 8 teams playing a home game in the first round.

Miami clearly belonged, how many of the 5 SEC teams did?

UGA, Ole Miss, TAMU.

Bama and OU were bad.

Miami won two one possession games against Ole Miss and TAMU. If Miami belongs so do they.

Miami probably doesn’t get in if Virginia wins the ACC.

Alabama was the best regular season SEC team. They deserved to get in

They put in two teams worse than ND (Alabama and Oklahoma) so they did not get it right.

Notre Dame was not very good either.

All of those teams were fringe types.

They rounded pretty nicely into form, and they would've been favored over both Alabama and OU. Saying that and arguing who deserves playoffs are different things though.

The committee wasn't going to leave out the best REGULAR SEASON SEC team which was Alabama. If the best team from the SEC during the regular season isn't Top-12 then nobody deserves to get in from that conference

We learned Bama was actually closer to the team that lost to FSU than it was the team that beat UGA. Struggled against a slew of bad SEC teams.

Agree on Ole Miss, UGA and A&M.

Bama and OU were the issue. The committee decided to make qualifying for the SEC championship game an autobid, and had to put OU in due to the head to head.

Anything that happened in the playoffs is irrelevant. The committees job is to put the best 7 teams in the bracket along 5 conference champions.

Bama was the best regular season team in SEC play on paper. That's why they got into the playoff.

Texas would have done better than Alabama

I'm not even contemplating the playoffs

They got their arse beat by UGA and struggled against LSU/Auburn etc. all teams IU would probably shellack too.

Something tells me you weren't doing this "relative to their own conference" argument with ACC teams the last decade

Alabama was not the best regular season SEC team. Oversized conferences make standings all out of whack.

The committee, AP, and coaches all had them as the 5th best SEC team, even before they got blasted by UGA in Atlanta.

Bama was literally the 1st place regular team this year. Are you dumb or just oblivious?
