Stanford could afford to pay Florida state and Clemson to leave the ACC for the SEC and than the ACC add Stanford and Cal, everybody happy

We need a do over on conference realignment.
Northeast, Southeast, Central/Mid-West, and West.
Problem solved. Frick all these continental conferences, and the "Big Ten" having 16-18 teams.
Ridiculous.

Pacific school playing on the Atlantic coast

Why would they move to another conference that will fold within a decade?
Because the conference they are currently in is folding NOW

Nothing like Stanford California playing for the Atlantic Coast Conference
Rename it the American Coast[al] Conference. FSU/Tallahassee is fairly close to the Gulf coast. Cali for the west coast, all the rest on the Atlantic coast.

Wasn't San Diego State in the big east for a year?

[Thamel] Sources: In the next 24 hours, there’s two calls for the ACC to vet and have early exploratory discussions on the potential addition of Cal and Stanford. One is for ACC athletic directors and the other for the league's presidents and chancellors.

Not a bad move. They already have a contract with ESPN, and will be allowed to renegotiate if added. They already have a few Texas teams and Tulane that can be in a western conference. Bring in Boise and SDSU and it would be a nice conference

cal really needs this. they are screwed financially otherwise.

IF ESPN renegotiates up upon expansion, I can see this minimizing problems with Clemson, FSU, etc.
I don’t see this happening though because ESPN is hemorrhaging money and laying off talent as a result.

Kinda sorta not really.
I'm a little fuzzy on the details since it was so long ago but IIRC they were going to go to the BE w/Boise and TCU but pulled out at the last minute after Boise used the threat of leaving the MWC to get their own sweetheart deal w/the MWC and ESPN and TCU's AD somehow pulled off the GOAT sales job and got Texas to back them for entrance into the Big 12.

ACC/PAC4 first then. Stanford and Cal going to the ACC as a pair is a very real possibility now. FSU and Clemson are not happy about it. The monetary gain would be small and the travel would be a nightmare.

Meanwhile hearing rumblings that the ACC GOR may indeed be getting its first test as FSU (and possibly Clemson) are indeed close to leaving the conference for the SEC (who isn’t going to sit by and let B10 go to 18 without matching).

Stanford, a Pacific coast team, looking to move their business to the Atlantic Coast Conference. This just describes the absolute absurdity of conference realignment and where we are with the sport of college football as a whole.

The ACC has no shot at getting a new tv deal no matter who they add.
Completely false. If the ACC could add Notre Dame and another solid team, maybe Stanford, then ESPN would absolutely redo their deal.
There's no chance Notre Dame is joining a conference, so it's a moot point. The P5 conferences could have forced Notre Dame's hand on 10 different occasions over the past 30 years and refused to play hard ball every time.

You guys are about to get a much better look at New Jersey yourself. There are plenty of 6000-mile round-trip rendezvous in Southern Cal's future. Enjoy.
