If tweet fails to load, click here. In my mind this is a far better indicator of true conference strength than bowl game and CFP results. No wonder the SEC has struggled in bowl games recently…more guys going to the NFL Draft means more opt-outs. Also making this even more impressive is that the SEC only has 16 teams compared to the B1G’s 18 teams

SEC 7.13 combine invites per team
B1G 4.67 combine invites per team
Quite a significant difference

It might also be an indicator of different demographic percentages in different parts of the country.
Wonder if the South would be on top if we were ranking chess performance?

It’s 2026 bro, we can stop acting like conference rivalries are a thing

This simply shows that SEC coaches are getting exposed for the none genius’s they are now that everyone can cheat. If the SEC is losing this many games while still having the “better prospects” just wait another couple years when the BIG continues to buy up the southern talent and even ups the combine numbers, The SEC coaches won’t have a chance.
At some point you guys in the SEC will have to admit your coaches and agents are ripping you off big time. I give Kirby his props but outside of him and the Vandy coach the rest are just fluff with little of anything other than being from the Saban tree and they are fleecing you with these contracts and buyouts. The shine is off the SEC and your AD’s need to do better than hiring the next meathead like Deboer who in the past could keep the bagman system working. Other coaches and schools have proven to be much better at working this new NIL era - it’s not just about money but making the right use of that money.

So Indiana beating Bama by 35 doesn't matter because Bama has 3 more guys invited to the combine?
Really?

Conference pride is so pathetic

That’s 1 random matchup, 1 team out of 16 vs 1 team out of 18. A big outlier too. Not only the best team in the B1G this year, the first ever 16-0 national champion. Versus what, the third or fourth best team in the SEC?
The combine invite numbers give us a true picture of the entire conferences, best all the way down to the worst, against each other rather than just random unbalanced matchups or bowl games where all the teams are playing with a skeleton crew that isn’t representative of the team that showed up for three months of the regular season.

Also, good thing Texas A&M won it all with their 13 combine invites!

What about when OSU beat the crap out of Tennessee and Texas last year. Just random encounters huh?
The B1G is crushing the SEC in bowl games/playoff games. To say combine numbers matter more than games played on the field is outrageous.
If these numbers were reversed and the SEC was winning national title, there's no world where you would be like "yea but the B1G has more guys going to the underwear olympics than the SEC"

The SEC sucked in a lot of “random” matchups in the postseason.

The combine numbers give you a picture of the individual talent and potential of athletes, nothing more. Should we start mentioning combine stars that sucked? We can start with Anthony Richardson.

The NFL doesn’t care about outcomes of college games. Cam Ward never made the CFP and went number 1 overall last year. Caleb Williams was hated because he “never won big games” people questioned whether he was worthy of number 1 overall. Safe to say he was.
Will Howard, national title winning QB in 2024, went in the sixth round. Even the hated Shedeur got drafted before him.
JJ McCarthy got glazed in college because “all he does is win football games” and he was the 5th QB taken in his draft, and now he’s the most ridiculed player in the entire NFL.
Stetson Bennett too! Won more games and championships than almost any other college QB ever, taken on Day 3 and will likely never be anything more than a backup.

Do the athletic conferences sponsor chess tournaments? What an idiotic statement.

Exactly, it’s a crapshoot, which makes your point sort of irrelevant.
1. Conference rivalries are dead
2. If you insist, then you have to figure out what defines the best conference? Teams, players, raw talent? How deep is the conference?
Until you clearly define #2, you are essentially arguing in a mirror.

Yet, for years when SEC top ranked teams like UGA beat GT every year I never saw you guys putting disclaimers on your chest thumping when you had the upper hand in head to heads or bowl games. Now that it’s been reversed you guys act like middle school girls saying things like “but Indiana was ranked #1 and Bama was only the 4th ranked SEC team”.
Do you even hear yourselves? A guy just made a middle school argument as to why INDIANA, freaking Indiana, beat BAMA by 35. Seriously, SEC homers- you gotta wake up at some point. The only person I’ve seen really acknowledge and accept the world has changed is Kirby Smart. He’s the SEC’s ONLY chance to slow this slide. But even as good as he is can’t make players better than they are - at least the past 2 seasons. UGA was young last year and returning a lot of talent so we’ll see what they do next December and January when it matters.
As for criteria as to which is the best conference - the criteria is the same as to what SEC fans set it to be the past 25 years - dominance in the post season and Natties.
