I read somewhere that outside of last year, every team that the Brewers have lost to in the postseason since 1981 has gone on to play in or win the WS.

Not true. Brewers lost to the Mets in the playoffs a year ago. The Mets did not make the World Series.

That’s why I said outside of last year.

2011 Rangers being a strike away twice. Then, Hamilton hits go ahead storybook HR in top of 10th to retake lead. Only to be outdone by Freese in bottom half, allowing Buck Jr. to cream his self echoing daddy's famous line "we'll see you tomorrow night!" F Buck and the cardinals

2002 Giants up 5 -0 in 7th or 8th, too painful to think long enough to remember for sure. Dusty comes out to relieve former Shreveport Captain Russ Ortiz. As he does, and Russ walks off field, Dusty hands him the game ball. Then a fricking rally monkey shows up and creates my toughest loss in a life of fandom.

Jays had to win 5 games

In an age where everyone knows balls and strikes before the ump, and the league is finally taking that burden off the umps, Game 3 IMO was a Jays victory

That Wegner bad call cost the Jays the deciding run. In a season where the 2 best teams made it to the WS and playdd good baseball, it was decided by a missed call. It was THAT close

RIP Deckinger

But Wegner has to live with it

Mostly not fair to one of the better umps

He would tell you like Deckinger did, he will hate his life like Buckner has

A late strike in the 2nd inning of a scoreless Game 3 with 1 man on 1st base cost the Jays the series?

Or was it just another base running blunder among MANY by the Jays, including last night, where that pitiful lead at 3rd cost the Jays the WS title in the 9th (bases loaded) by an inch at the plate...

(And why didn't he run through the force out?). You can go down a ton of woulda-couldas for the Jays but Game 3 in the 2nd inning isn't one of them!

The baserunning not a factor

Would not have scored regardless

It was the walk. That missed call puts him at 2nd

Followed by a single ghat allowed runnerto get to 3rd standing

Bichette’s miscue didn’t matter

This is the right answer and as a Dallas sports fan is the biggest gut punch loss in any sport in my lifetime. Cowboys and Mavs have had some brutal losses, but you could combine theirs, add the Stars, plus both of my college teams (Texas/LSU) and in aggregate their losses don’t come close to this one. I’ll never get over it - even our title didn’t heal this wound.

And remember. This was the last chance a man would have to carry that burden. Next year will be automated

I'm a Cleveland fan who dealt with two Game 7 losses.

1997 where we were two strikes away in the 9th before Jose Mesa blew the save.

2016 where Rajai Davis hit maybe the most clutch home run in team history off Aroldis Chapman before a phantom rain delay killed the momentum.

I think last night was more heartbreaking than both of those. There were about 5 different occasions between Games 6 and 7 where Blue Jays fans thought they had the World Series won.

I think Buckner was indebted to the mob. It's the only explanation for that play. Just simply no way a major league ever makes such a kindergarten blunder like that.

It was an awkward play going to his left as a left-hander, and I've always thought Mookie would have beaten him to the bag anyway since the pitcher wasn't covering. It would have been runners on 1st and 3rd and tied had he blocked the ball. He got 100% of the blame but didn't deserve THAT much.

It depends on your perspective. I think it's sad for the Blue Jays to lose, they played their hearts out, but I'm all Dodgers, and have been since the days of Koufax, Drysdale, Maury Wills and Walter Alston. The Dodgers' comeback was exhilarating.

100% this. This might've been the last time I actually melted over a sporting event.

I’d say it’s either Boone’s walk off in game 7 or the Bartman game

It worked out a few years later, but those had to be the most demoralizing losses for a fanbase in mlb history(wasn’t alive for Buckner)
