What’s worse is when UL wins the Sunbelt and gets the invite to the NOLA bowl, but fans won’t be allowed into the Dome because of Latoya tha destroya

Did you get a ring for reaching your “goal” in 2019?

This tells you all you need to know about the fan base. “It’s a school night so no one goes to the game” is a valid excuse.

I’m betting ESPN giving Sunbelt and the home team more TV money then the 10,000 in lost ticket sales would have netted anyway so it makes more financial $ince to play some games on Tuesday and Thursday nights then on Saturday.

Great question. I'm originally from up north, but have now lived in the Acadiana area for over half my life. I was a fan of sports up north and wanted to fill that void down here. I prefer college over high school and UL is my closest venue. So I have become invested in the University and culture over the last 25+ years.

Back to your question. I have always wondered why this university has not been able to sustain large crowds on a year to year basis. I think the previous administration holds the most blame in this. Football was not a priority for them. Authemont could care less about the athletic program and it showed on the field. Yes, they had some good years every now and then, but far and few in between all the down years. Plus they held onto coaches that were not producing way too long.

New administration and AD have changed that culture and realize that the athletic programs are as important to the school funding as any academic programs. Hence the winning and somewhat national recognition. BUT with that said, because it was 50 plus years of "don't care attitude" by the administration, it will take probably that long to ensure the local population that this University is starting to become legit. 4 years under Napier and not a down year yet.

Ricky Bustle came in and brought some very good athletes to this program, just wasn't the coach to put it all together. Mark Hudspeth took his athletes and had winning seasons and won bowl games, but his rah-rah approach to coaching wore off fast. But that got this program some attention which aloud coaches on the upswing to take notice and want to come here....the Billy Napier's of the world.

And back to your original question. I always thought there were two ways to fill the Cajun stadium on a weekly basis...
1. Bring in the P5 schools like LSU, Florida, Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame....and people will come to see those schools in their stadium.
2. Play those same P5 schools at their stadium, the LSU's, Florida's, Alabama's, Clemson's, Notre Dames'....AND BEAT THEM, and beat them soundly. Then when you play at home, no matter if you are playing the local high school, people will come out to see the team that just beat the P5 school at their own stadium.

However, I have no clue as to why the Cajuns can't fill their stadium on a consistent basis. It is really a shame. They are missing out on a great coach who has put a quality product on the field. I was there last night and I know 16k+ was announced as attendance, but if there was 6K there last night, I would be very much surprised.

16,000 is disappointing but as in everything you have to look at context of the situation behind attendance numbers.

Saturday home games this year have been good to the Cajuns as expected. It was 50 degrees at kickoff and stayed cold last night the entire game which was DEFINITELY a factor. You are lying if you say not and don't say other teams deal with the cold better.

If any of you know people from Louisiana the minute it gets below 55 everyone hates to go outside unless they are hunting or around a fire.

You aren't getting families and people with kids to go to these cold arse mid-week November games which the Cajuns rely on. Mid-week games kill attendance. Now the counter point is that Everyone points to the App State Coastal game and says look at their fan base and they show out.

First off I would argue that was the largest game in the history of App State and Boone, NC. A ranked undefeated immediate rival will do that and it's no surprise they had a great crowd.

Georgia State who is 4-4 on a freezing arse cold Thursday night at 630 pm is not going to get people to go to a game unless you have an incredible fan base, that's just the reality of the situation.

I expect the ULM game to have a nice crowd since it's on a Saturday and if they host the Sun Belt Title game for the first time in school history you would see a packed house since it's at 3 PM on a Saturday on ESPN.

But lets not kid ourselves or be shocked that attendance was low last night.

This is partly true for the conference as a whole except every team in the conference splits the money evenly but not every team has to move their home games. Cajuns have had 3 of 5 home games moved to mid week and homecoming moved to 11 am. If they’re going to spread the wealth, make everyone participate in the BS

As an aside, if you guys want to see really pathetic, Stanford is playing on a Friday night (tonight). I got tickets for $6 and we're going to sit anywhere we damn please. You'll see us on TV around the 40-50 yard line at the front of the 2nd deck where the views are the best. We'll be rooting for Utah.

ESPN and the CFP have ruined CFB. 65% of the nation draws flies thanks to their season being over by Week 3. ESPN gives teams wild arse time slots, which hurts programs looking to build in-game attendance.
