Alien 3 felt like a side mission in a video game.

There are two very good Alien movies and one decent one. Alien and Alien 3. And then Aliens. I agree.

Aliens is in the first category though

Despite being on the movie board almost daily, today I learned there is a movie called Alien Romulus. Had no idea there was another Alien movie.

It makes sense, it just makes the events of Aliens futile. Earth is fricked no matter what happens on LV246 in the comics. Thats what I hope this show is gonna do. The timeline for all the movies (1,2,romulus, avp, prometheus, covenant etc) happen either before the events of earth war, or far enough away that its never referenced.

Unless youre referring to the space station Ripley and Burke are on in Aliens but I dont believe thats earth.

Eta they're on something called Gateway Station but apparently she got an apartment on Earth and thats where the LT and Burke come see her so im wrong. Shoulda asked what you meant by Aliens not making sense.

I remember how unbelievably excited we were when Aliens came out. And now I'm hesitant to guess if this movie will keep me interested enough to finish an entire viewing.

That, plus the fact the Space Marines have no fricking clue about the xenomorphs.

And the inquest where one of the members specifically states that the xenomorph she described had never been encountered

I went down that comic rabbit hole interesting that the space jockeys show up at the end of that comic. That absolutely should’ve been Aliens 3 and badass.

But nothing really happens with the space jockeys afterwards? They just let the humans rebuild earth after terraforming it for a bit ?

The next comic is a team going to the Aliens home planet where the aliens are having an alien civil war and there are mutated Red aliens vs the Black aliens? Seems like that could be sort of cool. Interesting reading all the mind control stuff the aliens apparently have too.

Can't trust Weyland Yutani execs to tell the truth, or you can't trust that the people in the know would've kept this panel in the loop on it. We know for certain theyve encountered, studied, and tried to reverse engineer their biology for almost 40 years at this point. Thats in Romulus as well as several video games. Technically the movies are the canon. There's books too but ive only read a couple.
timeline

Obviously its not like James Cameron had this info at his fingertips . But when they lost the Romulus station after going crew expendable in Alien, Aliens and 3 were their next best chance at getting ahold of them. The other lore states they've had their hands on them the whole time. Hence, Earth War. Its quite possibly the most fricked up canonical timeline of any beloved franchise out there.

Romulus was fricking awesome and is the third best movie in the Alien universe. It nails the atmosphere of Alien and Aliens.

completely agree with this take.

i don't hate Prometheus or Covenant but I'm not going back to watch them again. AvP is fun but I think I've only watched it once again with my kids after they saw Predator and Alien. I'll skip 3 and Resurrection.

Prometheus wasn't really an alien movie to me ..focused more on the engineers which I liked and wish they continued focusing on that like Ridley intended but ppl wanted more focus on aliens in the next movie and the engineer plot got canned

Its been stated by Hawley in several interviews that this series is essentially a parallel reality to the films. Anyone expecting it to follow any sort of "canon" or lore is probably going to be disappointed.

As a huge Alien franchise fan Im ok with this....after Fox chose to abandon the Scott's prequel series l( which I wouldve like to seen completed) I was game for reboot. This series, Rain and Andy's story and whatever the next AvP turns out to be can run in parallel universes for all I care as long as the stories are entertaining

Anyone watched it yet? How can there by suspense if the girl is in a robot body? Right on the spot she is immune to face huggers and all form of pathogens. Not to mention aliens ten to ignore machines.

Just curious how made you suspend disbelief on that.

It premieres next Tuesday. This show will focus on five new alien species in addition to the xenomorph so we can expect plenty of danger for the synthetics.

I’m most excited to see Olyphant as a synthetic. Hopefully they don’t kill him off quickly.
