quote:nah that’s not even necessary. To the folks that take on this challenge $500k may as well be $5M, not $50k. Most of them would do this challenge for free just to have an excuse to go to the middle of nowhere and live off the land for months at a time (which is why it is annoying when people tap out because they can’t be alone). the money is enough to allow them to pay off all their existing debts and then allow them to live like they want.
The winner of the show deserves way more than $500K. That's just insulting. In today's times and inflation, that's like $50K. Bump it to a million at least.
Almost every introductory video I see these people are surprisingly well qualified as they already live off the land and therefore seem to have very little expenses. They almost always live in very tiny houses and are minimalists. Don’t recall an intro video where they didn’t say if they won the money they would move to the middle of nowhere and build their own house and just live off the land moreso than they already do

Sounds like the female version of the guy who constantly talked about his mentally challenged son. It seemed like almost every second of his screen time was devoted to him rambling on and on about his son's challenges, how much he missed him, etc.
shite got old real quick for me. Yeah, I get it, your son has issues and I can acknowledge that, but I don't want it drummed into my ears at every chance you get.
Yea, pretty much. In that seasons thread most people were liking him and then I said that I can't really relate to someone with a special needs kid and I feel bad for him but man it is super annoying how much he talks about his kid. People started to notice and before too long the entire board was sick of it

My wife is into this show. I find it hard to believe it’s all “real”
Like let’s send these people to live with mountain lions and grizzlies and they will be ok
It's about as real as a reality TV show will ever be. Little known fact but Grizzlies and wolves aren't just out hunting humans. One of the big "dangers" of this season are the wolves. Yea, wolves are going to stay far away from any human they run into. That's not going to be a danger, but it makes for good TV. And it is pretty cool to see them filming and in the background wolves are howling. In this first episode a bear strolled right by ol boys camp the first night he was there. In one of the earlier seasons a chick actually had to use bear spray because they were at her tent entrance.

I don’t think it’s fair women have to compete against real men on here. They always breakdown.
There have been plenty of badass women on the show. A fair amount of the men have been giant pussies as well and breakdown. I mean in this episode a dude was breaking down missing his family and thinking about giving up on day two.

Ep 2 gives more competitors. William screwed himself by losing his fishing line and didn't bring a ferro rod but but has primitive fire building skills.
Sarah seems to be pretty adept. One of my early favorites
Dusty is solid but this Arkansas outdoorsman will get a reality check in the Artic cold
Timber seems adept. Can't get a feel on him
One thing that's pissing me off a lot with this show...They build up all of this drama leading viewers to think a big game kill is about to happen and after several minutes of stalking with the obligatory commercial break the participant misses. Both Sarah and Timber missed and a lot of time was wasted building up the Drama. Timber wasted an extremely good opportunity with the moose that he missed 2 shots that were makable.

Alone Australia was after that season.
Regardless, whichever one you want to say was the last season, a female still won.
Edit: Forgot Woniya won the Alone Frozen season too.

Catching up on Episode 2 and Timber is hard to like
He "feeds the teeth" of his tattoo with blood from the squirrel.

He seems like a hard core prepper. I bet he’s pissed that he couldn’t bring his BOB and a 5-gallon bucket of beans and rice.

Goodness. Dude catches 20 lbs of fish in one day and decides he’s too sad to continue after being out there a week.
I’m interested to see what Isaiah’s shelter will look like. To me that’s the best part of the show, the shelters, not the sob stories or whatever stupid crap that has nothing to do with surviving this challenge.
I think it’s important to make a shelter you want to go “home” to. You need to be able to stand up in your shelter and get dressed. You also need a good chair with a back support. I go on an annual hunting trip backpacking for a week and not having a decent place to sit really starts to get to you after a few days.

One of the dudes that went deep and may have won a few seasons ago, one of the first things he did was build a chair. And a game to keep his mind busy.

What a douche. It only took a week of in the woods to figure out you've been an a-hole to your family? This guy has the skills and could stock up on food and potentially have won this thing. If he's the tool he claims he is the wife and son are probably happy he was gone.

That was a hell of a haul for one day. One of the better fishing days in the history of the show honestly. He went on an emotional spill there for a bit and my wife says that he's about to tap out. I was thinking no way, dude has a smoker built and just racked up on fish... then he keeps talking... and talking... and yep, wimps out. It was a very of tap out.
It is a little frustrating too when guys tap out and they try and talk about how they didn't have a problem surviving. Like they won at surviving, they just couldn't handle it emotionally. No, dude, you lasted a week, you did not beat Alone, you quit. You can try and justify it to yourself that had it not been for your family, you could have won, but that's not how it works.
Though I will say, that dude did have some legit inner demons

I would say the biggest challenge of this show is the mental part. They are all well trained physically and have the abilities to survive, but their mind breaks

Finally got caught up. I knew that little bitch Peter was headed home when he started whining about his kid. Never fails
He acts like his survival skills are good. Look dude, you cant quit on survival. Thats the whole point. To survive
Is it just me or is there just nobody at this point this season that you really like and feel like is a total badass?

I would agree. It plays a huge role.
I just don’t care to hear about it in the first week when everyone is building shelters and setting up how to get food.
It’s a survival show, not a drama, and it’s becoming more and more drama as the show has aged.

Producers do a great job of finding people with great survival training but also are a little mentally unstable. Would make terrible tv otherwise.
