Made sense. I’ll probably check it out after October,

Does this mean we get to look forward to Hot Carl's HOLY shite!!! post next month?

Oh you can definitely look forward to a post, but I think I know too much to give a “HOLY shite!!!” surprise take, but hopefully a more funny “Holy shite,” I knew it was gonna be bad, but I didn’t think it was gonna be THAT bad.

Wish I’d seen it years ago, and especially before Brawl on Cell Block 99. And I love Kurt Russell, so not sure why I haven’t. Looking forward to it, though.

Saw this movie not knowing about that scene and it really fricked with my head and gave me a weird aversion to movie violence. Made me light headed, couldn’t explain it.

I started this last night and have about 30 minutes left. I had heard so much about there being an extremely brutal scene in it that when I saw it I wondered if that was it. It was bad, but I guess I thought it would be worse somehow. Maybe I'm a psychopath

I haven’t seen it for whatever reason. Not avoiding it, just haven’t turned it on yet for whatever reason. I’ve known of “the scene” for years, but just that it’s violent, not the specifics

Bone Tomahawk is good. It's not overly great, and IMO the runtime is a bit long. It feels like they could've easily cut 30+ minutes out of it and made it a lot smoother. But all in all it is good, I liked it a lot.

Sure, the one scene is gross, but it fits well within the framework of the movie and isn't as gratuitous as it seems when you hear about it.

I recently watched Brawl in Cell Block 99 with Vince Vaughn. Was expecting some typical revenge violence, but there were some comedically over-the-top violent scenes toward the end. So I looked it up on IMDB and found it was done by the same director as Bone Tomahawk . Made sense.

I watched that last year and liked it a lot, despite how overly violent and silly it is at times. But it was cool seeing VV in something as brutal as that.

Eh. You're not a psychopath. I looked up the scene out of curiosity after reading this thread and yeah, it's bad, but good lord it's not that bad.

Would anybody categorize is as “horror?”

Yeah. I’d classify it as western and Native American folk horror. There are stories concerning the type of tribe that are the antagonists.

It would make for one hell of a scenario for a Call of Cthulhu: Down Darker Trails gaming session.

I agree. Maybe it was because I felt like some of the realism was taken out of it by how easy they made it look

Sidenote: Maybe I'm completely alone in this but I've never understood how Patrick Wilson made it big. I know The Conjuring movies were huge but I find him just boring as hell in everything he's in

I loved it, have seen it twice. Haven't seen it in awhile, but would love to watch again.

Anyone calling the rest of the film slow or boring just isn't a western fan.

That scene was a little brutal, but to me, the scene where ol boy has his foot on Kurt Rusell's neck, was tough. Seeing him trying to figure out the gun was so suspenseful

It's one of those scenes that gives you a sick feeling inside. Very tough to watch.

The split scene was definitely the most brutal violence I’ve ever seen on film, but that “tribe” was absolutely a nightmare inducing mind frick overall.

What did that civilized Indian call them, Troglodytes? I’d heard that word used a put-down before, but never knew its actual meaning. I had to look it up.

The idea of a human tribe that has remained non-verbal into the late 19th century was a real eye-opener.

The thing that was most horrifying, more than just brutal, was how the women were treated. It was more than a bit ridiculous, if you ask me.

Well, the whole scene lasts less that 30 seconds or so and yes, they do strip Deputy Nick, scalp him then stuff his scalp in his mouth to stifle the screaming, then hold him upside down and split him from crotch to skull to eat him.

Terrifier w/cowboys instead of clowns.

Your understanding is wrong.
