This is a case where the movie is better than the book. Same for the Shining as well.
Definitely agree with this. I recently read The Shining book and to be honest I didn't really care for it that much. It wasn't horrible I guess but it wasn't riveting for me at all. I loved the movie though

King can’t write an ending to save his life. Most of his stuff is good 2/3 the way through and then just falls short.

Isn't Jodie Comer in that, too? I'll watch pretty much anything with her in it.
Well, except for The Last Duel.
It’s a series of miniseries based on Philippa Gregory’s book series about The War of the Roses (York and Lancasters) and the Tudor reign. Rebecca Ferguson is in The White Queen as Elizabeth Woodville (who marries King Edward IV). Jodie Comer plays her daughter, Elizabeth of York, who marries King Henry VII (and is mother of Henry VIII) and her story is in The White Princess. After The White Princess is The Spanish Princess loosely based on Catherine of Aragon (Henry VIII’s first wife) but isn’t nearly as good as the first two miniseries.

Finally watched this and it was very good.
Eta: has anyone seen the directors cut?...contemplating if I should purchase it.

Just watched this for the first time and I did not enjoy it. I hate Stephen King so much, no hate on Mike Flanagan tho

there was a spinoff series from White Queen with Rebecca Ferguson called White Princess with Comier.
i only know this because my wife loves that stuff. i think white queen gave my wife a lesbo crush on Ferguson. she hates scifi and went to both Dunes because she was in it.

I still haven't gotten caught up on the Mission Impossibles to get to the ones with Ferguson.

I liked the movie a lot - Ewan McGregor is great in it, I liked the girl he was protecting, Rebecca Ferguson is finer than frog hair. But the ending.....
SPOILER
It's a very bad idea for the last act of your movie be done in such a way that you compare it to a Stanley Kubrick movie....like by doing stuff like recycling sets. Because no matter how good your movie is, it's going to look not great in comparison. The fact that the movie turned out well despite this - it's like winning a basketball game even though your team didn't score a point in the last nine minutes.

my brother in Christ, you are missing out. all good since 3. don't want to say they've ALL been better movie by movie but i'm happy to watch any of them from 3 on.
i'm not as high on rogue nation as most, but it's still good.
i said this earlier in the thread, but i normally show up 20 minutes late to start time of movies because of all the ads (not trailers.) I show up on time to Tom Cruise movies because he thanks the audience for coming out every time before the movie and he means it.

I honestly think MI: III was the last MI that I saw, and I even then, it was within the last 2 years.
There's just been so much good stuff to watch lately, the only thing longer than my backlog of movies to watch are video games that I'll never get around to playing.
In the MoviePass heyday, we were going 4-5 time a week.

Have you watched Ex Machina yet?

Nope. Last time I checked, it wasn't available for streaming anywhere, and I don't buy movies sight unseen.
Hopefully the streaming thing has changed in the past few months.

Just from his more recent works, Revival had a tremendous (albeit very dark) ending and 11.22.63 had one of the best endings to any novel I've ever read.

Love this movie. Book was good too. And quite a bit darker. But yes, the ending of the book was pretty weird

Just like with the The Shining, the movie is better here. Like in a lot of his books he spends way too much time talking about the guys alcoholism. It’s just a tired old trope in his books like one of the main characters being a writer. It’s fine if the writer wants to write stuff based on themselves, but not when you write 10 books a year like this guy.
