Mines for sure In The Mouth of Madness.

It's Big Trouble in Little China and it's not close.

The best is easily The Thing

The Thing
Carpenter is probably the most underrated director. Made bangers in pretty much every genre

He's an interesting case because he made so many smaller movies and did really well for that tier, but he didn't do too well with bigger budgets. When grading on the curve he's super elite.
Like I just watched in the mouth of madness and I love the movie but it's rough and especially the acting needs work. Just how Sam Neil presented his character was very formulaic from an old genre movie. I'm not the best at judging acting so I may not be describing this well
The thing is his one movie that has no rough edges.

Escape from New York is the only acceptable answer

The Thing is a masterclass in paranoia cinema.

This by far.
Though The Thing is probably his best movie, it's not as much fun.

Have to add Assault on Precinct 13. Underrated Carpenter flick.

The original Halloween.
Simple concept. Babysitter gets stalked by crazy masked guy at Halloween.
Music set the tension.

Probably The Thing, with Halloween being number 2.
Least favorite that I’ve sat through is Ghosts Of Mars, with the caveat that I haven’t seen Memoirs Of An Invisible Man.

Big Trouble
The Thing
The Fog
I think the Fog was very underrated. It was a classic ghost story that was well done and pretty dam scary. Also, with Carpenter you will always have one or two scenes where the visuals are just brilliant…like the end scene with the ghosts all standing in the church.
Another of my favorites is Prince of Darkness. It gets a little clunky in the middle and it has its flaws but the premise is fantastic and that final scene from the future with the dark figure standing in the church door and the scene with the mirror really stick with you.
