Aguirre, the Wrath of God - Werner Herzog and Klaus Kinski create a film of beauty, passion, and madness.
Well said. Probably top on my list.

Joan of Arc, absolutely.

The Battle Of Algiers
Run Lola, Run
Once Upon A Time In The West
Siege Of Jadotville
Das Boot

If British count, (it seems maybe they shouldn't?)
The Duelists,
Ridley Scott's debut. and,
Tunes Of Glory with John Mills and Obi-Wan.

Thinking about it, there's a decent number I've seen and enjoyed.

Good thread.

I don't really watch foreign films but I've seen these and damn they were awesome. This board turned me onto The Raid and man that was a trip.

The Pusher series. Drug dealers in Copehagen story. The first and third are the best. Shutter. The thai horror movie. Mesrine double movie. Story of the man of a thousand faces bank robber and maximum security escape artist in France, US, and Canada. Carlos, about the legendary terrorist Carlos the Jackal player by Edgar Ramirez. Headhunterz, norwegian crime movie with Jamie Lanaster. Football Factory, hooligans.

I didn't see it mentioned. I prefer this to Seven Samurai.

Harakiri

1962 Film

Harakiri is a 1962 Japanese jidaigeki drama film directed by Masaki Kobayashi. The story takes place between 1619 and 1630 during the Edo period and the rule of the Tokugawa shogunate. It tells the story of Hanshiro Tsugumo, a warrior without a lord.

The Killer
Hard Boiled
A Bullet in the Head

And now moving on to the ones that don't explain my disappointment with John Woo's American films.

Z
Ran
anything direct by Sergio Leone that qualifies as "foreign."
The Harder They Come (it has subtitles, that counts right?)
Drunken Master

The Invisible Guest (incredible twist)

Man this movie is fcking great. The suspense from start to finish

My only complaint (non spoiler) is there are scenes where they talk so fast that it's hard to keep up with the subtitles

I’ll just do more modern ones, and leave the classics alone.

Surprised to see Life is Beautiful not yet mentioned.

Goodbye Lenin with a young Daniel Bruhl is great.

City of God, as mentioned.
