The overacting. People like Paulie and Sil were just hilariously Italian. Like so overly so that they were caricatures. Especially Sil with his facial expressions. ; And don't get me wrong, I liked both of those characters. But they were very unintentionally funny for me. Same with Tony's accent.

Have you ever met an Italian from the Northeast?

Personally, I love The Sopranos but anyone else agree that every woman on the show who was a regular character was unlikable and a couple were downright detestable (Carmella, Janice)?

Ade wasn’t that bad other than being a rat and not leaving Christopher.

Benny was an underrated character too.

I hated Janice, but Carmella wasn’t bad to me. She had every right to be a bitch. Tony was fricking everything that moved, and was even kind of a sleezeball to his guys.

I'm curious what 10-20 shows you think are better. It would seem they have all had to come in the last 10-15 years or so because of your complaint The Sopranos doesn't hold up.

Edit. I saw your list. Not a bad list, but I think it's funny The Wire is number 1 when you don't think The Sopranos holds up over time.

According to Melfi, who wasn't bad, Tony was attracted to toxic women who reminded him of his horrible mother. Janice was Livia jr. I liked Charmaine Bucco too.

It's like he poured it on thicker and thicker each season to the point where it just sounded funny.

Have you ever watched true crime shows, especially ones where the FBI have audio tapes of mobsters talking that they got from bugging their houses, social clubs, cars, etc.???

Almost to a man they sound like ignorant grade school dropouts that have a PHD in street smarts, but it doesn't translate into overall intelligence.

I've heard audio of John Gotti when he and some of his crew were taped in the old lady's apartment above the social club he had when he was in charge of the Gambino crime family after the Castellano hit. The guy flat sounded ignorant, often repeating things over and over to make his point.

It isn't there intelligence that bothered me, just the caricature-like nature of them. And like I said, it just stood out to me but I still liked the characters themselves.

As far as intelligence, I did notice that in S6 they upped the misuse of words and sayings (especially with Tony and Chris). Had sort of a Michael Scott vibe to them sometimes. But I assume they threw those in to specifically to show lack of education.

Probably the most intelligent mobster I've ever heard speaking publicly about his involvement with the mob and some of the scams he came up with to make millions in illegal activities is Michael Franzese who was a made man in the Columbo Crime Family.

His gasoline tax scam alone netted him about a million dollars a week according to some of his associates. And like most mobsters, he had his hand in multiple other businesses, all pulling in tons of money for the mob, and himself.

I agree with you. I liked the show but the dream episodes bored me.

I’ve said this before but I love the fact that at the end of the show, Tony’s mafia crew is just a handful of old dudes with one AR and some pistols. The average suburban dad in Texas has more firepower

I always thought it was interesting how Artie was one of the finalists to play Tony, along with the guy who played Jackie Aprile

For anyone interested in more sopranos backstory, I highly recommend the newly released special on David chase and the making of sopranos on HBO Max streaming.

On a rewatch I've always wondered how from the start Tony is balling in that big arse house. Isn't he just a captain in S1? Just the biggest earner?

Yes, he’s referred to as “the golden boy” in season one because he’s the guy with all the money making ideas.

That's Artie in the gif, not Benny

There were plot stories left. First, why no follow up to the Russian in Pine Barrens. Maybe he died and was never found. Second, Tony suspects something with Melfie and her rape, but doesn't look into it.

I firmly believe it was the blind hitmen that offed him in the end due to them having a picture of him and Sack, given by Sil. Could have been a mix up

The show is legitimately a comedy, it wasn’t marketed that way but it sure as hell is.

The whole crew thinks they are rockstars try to imitate characters from Goodfellas and Godfather, but in reality they are borderline retards and broke as shite. Christopher, Paulie, Bobby, Sil, probably have IQs of 70 and the situations they put themselves in are hilarious.

So much ignorance on these guys not being intelligent, Tony had a semester at community college.
