Dude... you're right...

Didn't Olenna literally say that for her to be a successful ruler the people would have to fear her?
Yes and I pretty much paraphrased what Tyrion told her minus the War on Terror example. But ruling through fear is not what Dany wants. She doesn't want Jon Snow to bend the knee out of fear, she wants him to bend the knee because of all the titles she's earned because she's awesome and should be the queen.

We haven't won the war on "Terror". That was a bullshite propaganda thing any way. He said that we could have. Not that we did.
The import was that we had won, but we could have won sooner if we had been more ruthless. That is not true. There is no way to defeat "Terror". That was always bullshite.

I wonder if Tyrion's feelings influenced his advice to take the Rock
Based on the preview for next week, Dany may think so.

Tyrion knew that taking CR should be easy because of his knowledge of the sewer system.
But he just about ran the best unit they have completely off the gaming table.
Did anyone notice that Billy Bones from Black Sails is now Randyll Tarly's son?

I'm not gonna argue with you on that in a thread about a TV show, but I 100% don't agree with that statement.

Speaking of which - I didn't mind them skipping the battle scene at Highgarden. But doing so made it seem like the Tyrell forces presented almost no resistance even given the advantages of numbers, resources and a fortified position. I don't think I even saw any siege equipment in the shot of Jamie's army.
It was frustrating to me because all you fricking read about in the books is "The Might of Highgarden". Just the castle alone has three stone ring walls with a giant briar labyrinth inbetween two of them just to slow invaders down.
The only way it fell as easily as the show indicated is if they just flat out surrendered at the beginning, which wouldn't surprise me. Flowery pussies.

Olenna did say they were golden roses indeed
.

I wish they would have given more detail about Lannister losses too, but the timelines don't bother me. The sieges of both CR and HG could have taken weeks or even months, there is nothing in the show (that I remember) to suggest we know how long they took. As soon as the ships appeared on the horizon, a raven could have been sent to KL to dispatch Enron and Dany's ships would have had to stay there to keep the seige fed, watered, and supplied.

using written words it's not effective but on the screen? it was really good
No, I understand what you're saying and it makes sense. Still seems like the Tyrells themselves should have been capable of mounting something more of a defense. I doubt they would build their strategy on relying on the Unsullied so the plan to attack Casterly Rock didn't really come into play in the Highgarden battle.
But I guess we'll just have to go with the "Tarley was all they had as far as military leadership goes" statement. Oh and that the Tyrells just sucked in that field. As Olenna said, it was never their "forte'". Like she intimated, a golden rose is not a very martial sigil.

In some ways the show is moving too fast.

Was thinking about The Rock being a kind of Dunkirk for the Unsul...Jaime stated specifically that they are now forced to March across Westeros without a fleet.
It may be a little deus ex for the show, but...Wasn't a Redwyne Master of Ships under Aerys? Aren't they renowned (or were)for the size of their fleet? Seems Dany could burn Eurons fleet @ Lannisport/ The Rock from the air, and allow the Redwyne fleet to evac her army.
Why would Redwyne agree? To avenge Olenna and Highgarden. She was a Redwyne by birth.
Other possibilities could be White Harbor fishing fleet or even The Night's Watch ships @ Eastwatch...which would take Jon Snow as an ally to pull off either.
Just a thought.

I think he was talking about marrying Cersei. He asked for marriage and she said after the war. If he was talking about Dany it would be obviously after the war. And he teased Jamie by asking him how Cersei liked it. Plus marrying Dany wouldn't make sense. If they defeated her that means she has no power to offer and would constantly be a threat to Euron.

You know, that scenario could be the basis of a spin off based on Xenohphon's Anabasis (The March of the Ten Thousand) - the ancient Greek story the movie The Warriors was based on. Would watch. Probably be better than the prequel they eventually come up with.

I don't think they had the advantage of numbers. Likely when Tarly joined up most of the other Tyrell bannerman either joined him or stayed out of it. Plus it's likely the siege happend over the course of a couple of days at least.

I think originally he was talking about Dany, but whenever Theon and Yara beat him there, he changed his sights to Cercei

Yeah originally he wanted to be allied with Dany and marry her.

That was addressed by the attendant who came to check on cercie and Jamie in the morning. It is the new uniform of KL

Which makes it even more difficult to understand why Jaime is still with her.
I don't think it's that difficult if you look at his circumstances.
His conversation with Olenna was telling. He mentions, when she calls her a monster, something to the effect of that's what you see. I think he desperately clings to the time they spent together before she went mad and thinks that could return if they win this thing. People blind with love do this all of the time when glossing over their significant other's flaws (even major flaws). And up until Olenna's reveal, he likely looked at Ceresi as all he has left.
My hope is that the reveal is what begins his turn against Ceresi. I've always hated how they've turned against his redemption arc on the show and we're running out of time to flesh that out.
