An angle that didn't age well

1 - 5 are consistently good, but 6-9 are a mess.

I love 6 until it gets to the Sabre storyline. It's still good, there's just a drop-off. Season 7 is solid too. I think Season 1 of the office is terrible.

Diversity Day might be one of the best episodes. BJ Novaks first writing credit.

You know, the Office lends itself to spot watching. You can pick up an episode at random and pretty much enjoy it. There are certain episodes that I can run thru, The Client, Gay Witch Hunt, The Deposition and Dinner Party. The holiday episodes. Etc. But if I watch a Parks episode, I’m probably going to run thru a bunch in order.

With all those talented writers, the Office should have had a much better plan for post-Michael. I mean, they knew it was coming for a year - it is not like Steve just quit out of the blue.

The truth isn't a hot take. Parks managed to actually turn their people into complex human beings, whereas nobody outside of Pam and Jim really actually grew.

I watch it on comedy central so I sometimes forget about diversity day. Yes, that's a funny one. It's a shame they don't show it

Crazy, literally said a similar thing to my wife recently. Love the Office, love Friends, but rewatching Parks and I think it’s my favorite.

It was only 6 episodes but Diversity Day, Health Care, and Basketball were all hilarious and that was half the season.

The Office = insane people in the real world. The most awkward episodes are when Micheal is allowed to interact with the public.

Parks and Rec = Insane people in an insane world. The lack of sanity in Pawnee makes the show too goofy at times.

Both are hard to watch during season 1. Both are great thereafter. Leslie Knope is a horrible human being.

The red head kills the office and knocks it below Parks for me. She’s absolutely trash.

Parks and Rec has better characters. Dwight, Michael and Kevin were amazing characters. Parks matches them with Ron, Andy, and April. The second tier characters of Parks is better IMO...not by a large margin, but a noticeable one.

Peak Office was funnier but Parks and Rec is a more consistent funny

Completely agree with this.

Also, as someone who worked in government finance and now audits municipalities for a living, I can tell y'all that Parks and Rec is far closer to a documentary than many of us would probably like it to be.

I always get shite on for this, but I thought P&R was highly overrated. It feels like a cheap knockoff of The Office and in a bad way. Outside of maybe one or two I borderline hated all of the characters. I’ve tried to watch it a few times and got to about early/mid S5 before I finally threw in the towel and gave up.

And don’t get me wrong, I don’t think it sucks or anything. And I’ll catch it here and there in syndication. But I just didn’t overly like it like I sort of expected to. So in the end I guess I was just disappointed in it.

How so? It’s just as good now as it was then. The scene where she finally meets him is pretty funny.

Hmmm

Love P&R but:

1. Leslie and politics was not funny at all.
2. Leslie not as funny or as good as Michael.
3. Season one was bad. Andy was terrible. The change to a fantastic character is great though.
4. Bad characters goes to PR. Ann’s boyfriend Mark. One of the worst characters on tv. Gabe=Screaming guy.
5. Stanley, Kevin, Creed can’t be matched in minor characters.

The first 4 seasons of the office is better than the whole series of parks and rec. I will give it to you though that parks and rec was more consistently good (excluding season 1) throughout the whole series. The office was very hit and miss in the second half of the series’ run.
