O don't really get the hate for Rockwell. He was supposed to be annoying. I thought that much was obvious. And the fact that like ten people are complaining about him being annoying means he did his job. If an actor can get under your skin he is doing something right.
I went into this without high hopes bc I had heard so much negative stuff on here and from critics. I thought it was a great sequel. I mean the first 30-45 minutes of Iron Man were amazing. But I thought the first fell off drastically once he broke out of Afgan prison. 2 was consistent throughout. Didn't see that coming. And Mickey Rourke has proved to me that he is the biggest bad arse in Hollywood. Rockwell and Rourke made for a much better bad guy, which was what held the first one back imo.
This one was a little funnier. But the star power was almost distracting. Super stars were all over the place. And it bugged me that Farveau was actually in the film as much as he was. I kept thinking "shouldn't you be directing." The IndyCar scene was tight other than, where was the cuation flag!!??
Good stuff.

i didn't like Don Cheadle for this role. He seemed boring to me, he surely doens't fit the role of a commanding office, IMO.

I really like Rockwell's character actually. RDJ performed up to expectations, and Rourke was actually a somewhat convincing Russian. Scarlett Johanssen (sp?) was a much appraciated addition. (Quick question: to Stark's assistant Pepper Potts know that Johannsen was part of SHEILD?)

I kind of thought Nick Fury's character was inserted into the story a little too early. He just kind of showed up one day while Stark was eating some doughnuts. I thought the story was a little less believable, like how he had a briefcase that served as a seperate IRONMAN suit, but hey, if you could believe a man could fly around the country in an iron suit powered by an electormagnet in his chest, than who cares? It's a fun movie.

And I think one of my favorite scene's in the entire movie was Stark showing up that Senator and making him look like a fool. If you liked the first movie you will like this one.

Just got back from the show. I loved it just as much as the first.

quote:

If you liked the original Iron Man, there's no reason you won't like this one. The action sequences are better in 2, and the FX are first rate. The story's not as strong, but all the quips and one-liners are there. Robert Downey Jr. is of course still awesome as Tony Stark, and most of the supporting roles are good. I had a little problem with the way Sam Rockwell played his character...he was a little too annoying for me. Although, he did have one great scene where the character really worked. Scarlett Johannsen looked great kicking arse, love Don Cheadle in anything. Mickey Rourke's villain is better than Obadiah Stane in the original movie. I'm not digging on Samuel L. as Nick Fury, I think he's distracting...maybe it's the old school comic fan in me. It's a fun movie, and a great kick off to the summer movie season.

I agree with everything, except Sam Rockwell. I think he nailed it. Perfect kind of secondary villain that you want in this sort of movie.

4/4

My only qualm would be that the "final" fight was somewhat short. But they really didn't build all that much to it.

The first movie was origin, the second was the trial. Can't wait for the third.

liked it, but I am tired of comic book movies that are simply saving money by having the villain be nothing more than a doppelganger of the hero.

Tough not to do. A hero's greatest villain is always his opposite.

quote:

Iron Man vs Bigger Iron Man
Iron Man 2 vs Iron Man and Little Iron Men and Whiplash Man

Iron Man's two greatest villains(Fing Fang Foom and Mandarin) would be so damn hard to do in the world Favreau has set up. Even if they do the Mandarin, they're going to have to change him significantly.

quote:

Decades of history, yet they feel the need to use Villains that are replicas of the Heroes.

We saw how using a "complicated villain to bring to screen" worked for the Fantastic Four. A cloud? Yay.

Iron Man seems to be mostly about the military industrial complex, so I think most of his villains are going to come from that. Although., introducing Thor into his world, through Avengers, could bring a mystical aspect. That would have to be handled carefully.

It's not surprising. Obviously a bunch of people noticed it.

having dinner in the airplane hanger with Rourke

That's exactly the scene that made me notice it. Probably because it was very bright/white.

Yeah, I just saw an article somewhere that said Favreau has already confirmed it. Good to hear, but he can't come in his comic form. 10 alien rings and chi powers won't do.

Nope Freaux

The article said he would like Mandarin to be the Villain but then the rest of the article talked about how he would have to change everything about Mandarin.

It was a luke warm recommendation for Mandarin. I think the reception of gods and magic from Thor will determine how Favreau will approach or even if he will approach the subject of Mandarin. Which is what the article said.

I certainly did not take it as a lock for Iron Man 3.

Saw it today. I enjoyed it personally. Laughed at the fake tan palms. Not as good as the original imo, but was fine.

The article I read referenced an interview he did. I think Favreau will get what he wants.

In the comics, Mandarin stands up to Iron Man. He is supposedly so awesome as a human that he can fight Iron Man. Not going to happen in the movie.

The only real way to do it is to make his rings "technological" in some way.

Well, his rings are of alien origin, not really magic.

The gf and I saw it last night, and she noticed the colored hands of Rockwell immediately. I thought it was kinda odd how they did that.

Overall, the movie was pretty good. I didn't like the first IM anywhere near as much as everyone else did, but still enjoyed it. Same for me for IM2. I really don't like RDJ though, so I think that may be one reason I'm not into the IMs as much.

I also agree that I didn't like Sam Jackson in it at ALL. Thought he was horrible. And also good call from whomever said that Jon Favreau seemed kinda out of place and should have stayed behind the camera more.

And this:

All in all, it was pretty good for what it was...a summer blockbuster.

Ironman 1 = 5*
Ironman 2 = 3*

If they make a 3, I won't spend the $ to see it at the theater.

Yeah Fury put it perfectly: distracting. I thought he would be cool, but damn, he sucks. Too bad, because we'll be seeing a lot of him apparently.

I think Jackson would work better if his character were more reserved and gruff like the classic Nick Fury or even Jules from Pulp Fiction. I would have rather heard:

quote:

"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee."

than "I've got my eye on you".

Also, I really hope that plastic piece of crap isn't going to be Cap's shield. It looks like that turd they used in the short-lived '79 tv show. It's metal, dammit!

Did anyone else feel they saw atleast %50 of the movie in the previews/trailers? I will probably be made fun of but I really think Clive Owen would have made a really good Nick Fury. I thought Rourke did a great job and like others have posted I did see to much of Favreau.

Did anyone's movie have the trailer for Super 8?

as opposed to Terence Howard? to me Cheadle was 10 times Roadie than what Terence was. TH was too Whiny in the 1st movie.

it was pretty good, but not great.

I don't like action movies at all though...so from me, "pretty good" is probably saying a lot
